Guys, I think my baby is dead. Heading home from xmas shopping (late i know but hey) office phone calls, mind not on the job in hand, then OOOoooppppssss. Whilst carrying a nice line through the corner at a speed bearing a speciall relationship with the model number 111S ( not admissable in court officer)suffered a slight reduction in lateral grip due to white lines being made of lard!!!!!! back end out, nose in , connects with armco, big spin then came to rest quite unphased. Immagine my horror when i got out only to see i had removed the back of the clamshell completely. There then followed a quick game of pick the gifts up between the vehicles on the outside lane.
Couple of questions, what is the fastest wipeout members would admit to?
and given the fron clam is gone, crash structure well used and the rear completely missing do you think it will be written off?
Photos will follow for the morbid.

happy Xmas guys and take care.

Certainly give the guys at Lotus 10 out of 10 for structural integrity & the nice ladies at Frasers deserve a shout for re-wrapping all my pressies when i took them back in with a sob story.

Gutted for you mate - seems a growing list of folks this time of year having the same experience. Happily everyone seems to have been OK - crash structure works then?.

Good luck.

Sorry to hear of the slight mishap. If the Chassis is intact and the suspension mounting points ok, then it should be repairable, but at a price. But what price is safety ? At least you are still here to see Christmas out.
Good luck

Given the serious lack of bodywork after such a shunt are there any options that become available?

Perhaps the fitting of Exige bodywork?? The car is a 2002 S2 111S would this be practical??

Colour change, would it be possible to get it re-sprayed in a new colour.

If anyone has any experience of negociating these things "post impact" i would be interested in hearing about them.

Merry Xmas Guys.

Sorry to hear about this Stuart, but as others have said, at least you are ok enough still to be able to enjoy christmas.

If the repair is done under an insurance claim, then changng the colour shouldnt be to much of a problem as I doubt it costs any/much more than spraying the original colour. Clams maybe a different thing, as I beleive that the Exige ones do cost more.

The exige front clam can be fitted to the 111s. The rear requires a bit more work. I think it was MJK who had an exige front clam put on his S2 after someone drove into him (front and rear damage). Looks great.

Unlucky, TBH if you hammered it into Armco at the kind of speed you mention it's likely that the damage you did at both ends will be very close to write-off.

If it does get repaired you'll have made it a very unpaletable proposition at resale, probably cat C/D levels of depreciation (50% ish).

Unless anyone was injured you don't have to report it to the Cops, however they may be in touch regarding the Armco which you'll have to pay for the repairs to IIRC. I personally wouldn't be bragging about the kind of speed that you're hinting at above. You should count yourself lucky that you got out, and didn't take anyone off the road with you at the time.

I reckon it would be a fair bit more. You'll have to respray the interior, doors, roll bar cover & sills, all of which will have to be removed and prepped to be done properly. Probably another £500 to a grand?

Not really a brag as the skill involved is absoluteli NILL but what amased me was the structual integrity of these little cars. I shure as hell would not like to have been in some eurohatch under the same circumstances. The cops did actually attend and were pretty cool about the whole thing. They said when they saw the car and me standing beside it they thought i was a witness as they were certain that the driver was not going to open the door and walk away.
I suppose given their lack of knowledge about the construction of these things they do create a much wider debris field when they start absorbing energy. I will go back to the garage and have a look having referred to the manual but i think they may choose not to repair. Need to start thinking about its replacement.

Sorry MJK - it was Maverick25 and his burgundy S2 111s. Don't you have a red S2 (one of the very 1st S2's iirc) He did a number of body mods. I remembered the M bit of the name + a number. Well not too far off....

Have a look at the car:

Don't really like to see the phrase "debris field" and "Elise" in the same sentence...

People shouldn't be calling from the office on Christmas eve's eve, either. I despise phones.

Glad you're ok - it proves Lotus did an excellent job with the car.

you seem to be taking it so well. I know I was gutted back in August with my run in with a 4x4. Crash structure did not perform too well this time, with lots of penetration (not the nice type either) Mind you, it rode over the sills.

My thoughts are the same as all the others, glad you are OK, and hurry up and replace her, you know you have to!!!!

This bit is true! 7th S2 made. If I wasn't feeling so unwell I'd be tempted to go out and give it a clean - it's filthy!

Spoken to my dealer, he reckons a write off could be in the air and will make the right noises to the insurance company. Going to go and see him tomorrow afternoon. Lots of options incuding one of the nice motorsport jobs in blue with white stripe, couple of new Exiges in stock, Oh and he could provide me with a Exige 240R.!!!!!!!!!!I guess every cloud may have a silver lining.
