Hi, a dutch carwebsite showed me today this car, its called the Tesla roadstar but its almost a Lotus Elise look a like...see for yourself;

Its a compagny from the USA(California) and the first cars will be used only there from beginning 2007...it can reach a topspeed of 210km/u and 0 to 60 in around 4 sec!! it has 248ps and can rev to 13.500rpm! and max torqu is there from 0rpm! haha thats a lot at low revs
also the interior looks the same...

so Lotus is into something??

though this is a lot diference

here is their website and link;

add for the right picture and: Components and subsystems for the car come from a variety of sources all over the world. Final assembly for the Tesla Roadster is at the Lotus factory in the UK.

I think it looks really nice. The roof mounting points and windscreen surround are undoubtedly Lotus, so I'd guess that the chassis is too.

If you are developing an electric car then what a better platform. Well balanced and light.

Zytek in Repton once built an electric Elise. they used a standard Elise as a back up car. From what i remember seeing it knocking about, it was pretty quick but you couldn't hear it coming, so people were surprised when it nearly ran them over.

It's at the motor museum in Gaydon if you want to see it.

yeah the sound must be weird! indeed...maybe they bring a soundclip soon:heeh:

It realy is a lot of Lotus what they tought on when building it! and me thinks Lotus could be much involved in this!..I love the idea but also will miss the engine and exhaust but hey...no fuel, still very fast...almost like the elektric carnival bump cars!
and this model is nice too...think they will sell a lot(us) their...and 3h charge and more then a 250 mile radius is not bad!
GTRene

and then this, no more peaky engines...;
The Tesla Roadster delivers full availability of performance every moment you are in the car, even while at a stoplight. Its peak torque begins at zero rpm and stays powerful beyond 13,000 rpm.

Ow and not completely un importand
The end result is an easy-to-use charging system that, with incentive pricing factored in, costs you roughly 1 cent per mile to drive.*
I want one

yep..Lotus is involved!
see the asking items on their list it says:

Components and subsystems for the car come from a variety of sources all over the world. Final assembly for the Tesla Roadster is at the Lotus factory in the UK.
Lotus Cars is assembling the Tesla Roadster under contract to Tesla Motors. Tesla Motors has also hired Lotus Engineering for certain design and engineering tasks. The Tesla Roadster style was developed in Lotus Engineering's design studio - Lotus Engineering won a design contest where several design firms submitted proposals. Lotus Engineering supplied the initial chassis which was significantly modified by Tesla Motors engineers.

Makes a lot of sense - developing electric cars at the moment is a very expensive business with little return, so Lotus doing this for a client means they minimise their expenses whilst developing their skills

Also some thanks to buggs who found this today about that amazing Tesla Lotus...
The price for what may be the first real step toward a viable mass-market electric car? $100k maybe some cheaper? but thats about 54.000,-gbp
Here with the Terminator Arni

they say this also about it;
The torque is unbelievable. And eerie. The power just comes on right now and does not abate. It's absolutely batty; unlike anything we've experienced. We think our kidneys may still be embedded in the seatback. And it sticks. Hoons...

and this about the weight;
The wheelbase is two inches longer, and it weighs a bit more than an Elise, tipping the scales at 2500 lbs in the preproduction cars we saw. They're hoping to shave an additional hundred pounds from the production version. The sills are two inches lower than its Lotus half-sibling...

Does noone else think the front of the tesla looks remarkably like the front of the photoshopped S3s that have been doing the rounds on the net and on here? Could it have been supplied by Lotus also and give a pointer to the front on view of a new elise? Or is that just crazy talk? Stuart

would not be such bad thing...and some ideas good be shared when lotus is taking things into future!
And they not only make another body but also an even better chassis...with an all aluminium rearsubframe too? and a bit more wide? or aint that possible...?

Agree with you Rene , I think it s a good thing too as long as they wave a "pretty" wand over the rest of the car :-) The front is promising!

yeah, the front is indeed promising

it also looks much wider too(front) or is that just look that way because of the lens from the camera? or that wide Arni is standing next to it...

Think it is definitely wider at the front to accoomodate larger wheels/tyres?
Dont think its the lens as all the people look undistorted, well compared to Arnie anyway!

Some "new" pictures...
here the Tesla see through...

Interior, is it wider? looks the same??

and here we finally see how that rearhatch works

the high reving heart of the Tesla...

and here the motor and rotor detail...no more blown headgaskets me thinks

The high-power, AC-induction electric motor and battery pack are located in the rear of the Roadster.

Very interesting car it is, even for a petrolhead like me
