I can't believe this has happened again

Had a lovely morning, drove up through the City in my Lotus nice and early, got to Beckton at about 9.30am where about 40 other PHers met up for a natter about the cars etc. Saw some lovely cars and met a few more people. Set off home about 12.30ish.

Just driving slowly home through London, sitting stationary in the traffic just past Clapham Common on the A3 with the roof off enjoying the sunshine when BANG!!! My car was lifted up at the back and thrown forward, then BANG! again!! I got out and went to the car behind, this woman was saying "I'm sorry, I'm really sorry, my foot slipped"

Needless to say I was NOT happy. Having only just picked up my car a couple of weeks ago after losing it for a month while it had a complete new rear clam fitted after my builder drove into it while it was parked on my drive

She got out of her car and proceeded to burst into tears, I'm afraid I wasn't feeling very sympathetic and said "What are YOU crying for? Look what you've done to my car!" She kept saying how sorry she was and I did feel a bit mean for shouting at her. She said her foot got stuck under the pedal, I looked at her shoes and the heels must have been about 3 inches! I couldn't WALK in shoes like that, let alone try and drive. She said that she'd hit me so hard she's hurt her back.

I'm home now and have just put my poor car in the garage... I can't bare to look at the back of it. I think yet another rear clam is needed as it's split right across the back, my exhaust pipes have been pushed right in and the tray at the back is well mangled.

I was able to drive the car home and I must say that the exhaust tone now sounds superb! Could almost be mistaken for a TVR, think it's blowing a bit!

Going to lay down now, very sore neck and shoulder.

Quite right. Would make a nice change to see them investigating accidents and going after people who were clearly not in control of their bloody cars.

Coupe Girl, very sad to hear about this especially after only recently getting it all sorted. You should get the neck and shoulder checked out though just to be certain and then its also on record at the doctors if you ever need it.

Well at least she admitted liability, although from your description of the events there were two bangs? Is that front and rear clams? Although I'm guessing you would have told us if the front was damaged too.

Glad at least you're ok apart from the neck and shoulders (get the other half to start working on those!).

Hi Paul

Yes, the first bang was really hard, lifted the back of my car up and shunted it right forward, then there was another bang, not quite so hard. I can only assume she panicked and managed to get her foot on the accelerator instead of the brake!! At first I thought she'd hit me and then someone had hit her from behind but no, she did it all herself... twice!! The second time she hit me her car just kept pushing mine forward for a few seconds, I had my foot jammed on the brake, and I also grabbed the handbrake, as the car in front of me was getting closer

I'm gonna try and see the doc tomorrow as my neck and shoulder are quite painful now, like you say, just in case I need it on the record. I'm sure it's just pulled though and will get better in a day or so, I don't really want to start getting into personal injury stuff as well, I just want my car fixed. She didn't half hit me hard though!!

Thanks for your concerns everyone ... I've calmed down a bit now...

Hi there GT

I know!! It's like Deja-vue... I still can't believe it's happened again.

The damage doesn't look anywhere as bad as Gooby's, the car was still drivable and the exhaust tone sounded superb the rest of the way home! I think it's blowing a bit... one exhaust is a couple of inches shorter than the other, which is also an inch or so shorter than it was originally, the rear tray is all munched up as well and my gleaming new rear clam has a very impressive split right across the back now.

The lucky thing was that I was originally going to take the Lotus 340R, got it out of the garage and all fired up to go, then saw a black cloud and changed my mind at the VERY last minute! I hate to think if she'd ploughed into the back of that lovely new Honda V-TEC engine that's just been put in!

Thanks for your concerns

What a sh!tter, I really feel for you.

I'm sure freshly repaired loti attract complete skill-less drivers. Since getting my front clam replaced, someone very nearly reversed into the side of me outside my own house - the neighbour just didn't see me as she was reversing out of her drive (i have to drive on the kerb across her driveway before reversing into my spot)- after about 4 honks of the horn she eventually saw me - she did apologise profusely! I'll let her off this once.
Then someone was blindly reversing in Tesco car park (hells car park), I could see it coming so drove forwards to evade trouble.
And then to top it, the other night some spanner in a shabby old sierra decided to whack their car into reverse at the traffic lights. Fortunately I was far enough back to avoid impact. I got past him at the first opportunity then of couse he decided to tailgate me until I could get past the next person.

There are some complete lunatics on the road who are ina world of their own. I hope you get it sorted asap. It's not nice.

Driving in heels is possible although the floor mat trashes the back of the shoes, but 3 inches? That stupid really - I usually drive in flat shoes and change when I get to my destination if I'm doing heels (not often I have to say!).

Hope you get it sorted asap.

It's gonna be soooo embarrassing driving back into the Lotus Dealers tomorrow.

I feel for the poor person who's only just restored it, absolutely perfectly, from the first incident when they see all their hard work trashed.

And it was perfect, I really couldn't fault the work, they even put a little Elise decal on the side which hadn't been there before.

That really is incredibly bad luck. I'd have gone absolutely *$$*11//?&** with the stupid *****. Glad to hear you managed to keep it together and make it home safely. Sounds like her insurance co is going to be getting a big bill but I'm sure your car will be back good as new. Hope your neck and shoulder are fully recovered soon.

Real annoying! Still, at least there should be no arguments about liability.

As for the post ( Diva? ) saying there was a problem when parking at Tesco.....now come on, in this day and age of no-one but no-one leaving notes when they bump park your car AND you taking a Lotus to a place heavily infiltrated with lady drivers who are also in a hurry.......I'd be more amazed if the Lotus came out in one piece!

Not that the blokes are much better. You can park a Lotus at the far end of the park and leave it with not a car in site....then I gaurantee you it will be surrounded when you return. The blokes have 'got to take a look', even if that does mean parking 2 cm from the doors....

STRESSFUL!!!

Far better and cheaper to buy an old hack off e-bay and let that get bumped. I use an old Clio for exactly that!

Oh 'Girl - I am so sorry to hear your news. Heartbreaking. Please be careful, if the 'zorst is sounding funny then it may be that there has been a shunt across the manifold.

Take it easy and let your favourite body shop take care of your baby.

Can I also suggest a quick call to A&E to see about whiplash. If it is whiplash then you can clain on her insurance. You may as well get the funds for a holiday out of this!!!

The car will be repairable, we are all thankful that you are in one piece.

Best regards to you and your car

So sorry to hear about your news! That sucks!
She said that she'd hit me so hard she's hurt her back.
Why do I get the impression that an insurance claim is coming on? "Had an accident/trip/fall/jump? Claim compensation now, ring 0800-no-win-no-fee, we're here to help!".

My friend rolled into someone at some traffic lights at about 4mph. There was no damage to either car whatsoever but the woman he hit claimed off of his insurance for whiplash and back problems. He lost is NCB and, no doubt, the woman got a few bob out of an injury claim.

Hope you get it sorted (again) without any hassles.

All the best

What terrible luck. The car can be fixed, and will be, just make sure you get yourself checked out. I was shunted last year and had pains continuing for a good 3 months plus afterwards.
