Try asking in the Elise forum.

Or better still, try doing a search in the Elise forum, unless you particularly enjoy being flamed for trolling.

No no no! Fellow Lotus owner here who doesn't drive an Elise! Agreed though, it does seem most peeps on here are Elise owners.

Anyhow, personally I'd opt for Elise for better quality IMO and it should retain better value, that's if you ever had to part with it! The Elise, again IMO, is better looking and holds excellent road presence.

Let us know what you choose!

You are mistaken. The giveaway is the fact that it is called GENERAL LOTUS STUFF

The Pistonheads forum for Elise related cars has been cunningly identified by giving it the title ELISE/EXIGE/EUROPA/340R

In any case, probably better not to feed the Trolls. shoot

Point taken & ive been up infront of the firing squad on a number of occasions for putting posts in the "wrong place" or for spelling mistakes.... Makes you wonder if some of these people have anything better to do... hehe

T5SOR, if you are genuinely interested in comparisons between the two cars and not just trolling, shout Do a search in the Elise Forum.

The subject has been done to death.

If you read past threads, you might also understand why we are reluctant to feed trolls on this particular topic.

Simple test, next time you're at a party and someone asks "What are driving?"

That answers itself i think, people usually end up walking away before you get to the VX220 bit.

It seems the original poster cannot get an answer.

The answer is that the VX is a better car.

There, all sorted, go off and buy one now!

I'm not especially bothered whether the question is posted in here or in the Elise forum.

My point is that the topic has been discussed many times: any meaningful points have been made many times previously, and as T5SOR himself has pointed out, the discussion almost invariably descends into peurile slanging matches. On several occasions it has attracted the attention of a particularly odious little pro-VX220 psychopath with a habit of changing his nickname, who then goes on to make threats against members off-forum and libellous statements on-forum.

There is plenty of information available to anyone interested enough to have done a search on the topic without wasting time and bandwidth dredging the topic up all over again.

If, on the other hand, T5SOR has a specific question, rather than the usual, vague and provocative 'which is best', I'm sure there would be plenty of people willing to offer advice. hippy

edited to add: in response to the bit about what to look for on a '99 reg. Elise S1, there is a sticky at the top of the Elise forum giving links to buyers guides, etc. Again, this is hardly the most original question to have raised its head above the parapet!

...perhaps we need another sticky:
Elise vs. VX220: The Elise is best. NOW FCUK OFF AND STOP TROLLING!! [topic closed]

Elise vs. VX220: The MR2/chavved Corsa/go kart is best. NOW FCUK OFF AND STOP TROLLING!! [topic closed]

That way all communities get pissed off in equal amounts !

My 2pence's worth would be this (and yes I drive a Z4 so way out of my boundary I guess but hey...)

I met two PHers recently that were mates, one had an S1 Elise, the other a VX220. General opinion between them was one preferred one marque the other preferred the other, so I guess the solution for the original poster is, test drive both and see which you prefer!

Personally I think they both drive and look cool and they both were well able of keeping up with the 996TT that I was in at the time...

I may be a badge snob, but i have to agree with dodgey_rog. Lets imagine your standing in the pub and you meet a fine young lady. She asks what you drive and you say Vauxhall VX220. Do you really think that she will know what a VX220 is?? However, you say Lotus Elise, even if she doesn't have a clue what an Elise is, she must have heard of a Lotus!!

Even if your married, engaged or otherwise tied down to a lady, I think you see where I am coming from.

Also, everytime I see a VX220 and they wave, you can see a look of 'if only I hadn't been so tight' in there eyes.

LOL, there isn't an Elise made that could live with my VX so why would I hanker after a Lotarse?

Still, I suppose it is a theory and it made me chuckle.
