I red on exiges.com and my dealer confirmed that it was possible to upgrade the ECU to lower the cam change to 5750 rpm to stay more often on 2nd cam while on track (sic)
The price for exchange is £495 +vat and no change of peak power.

I would like to see the torque and Bhp curves to compare but I am tempted

Just want to let you know

Sorry this is not a scoop I found the info on the "toyota engine" topic aswell

i also am waiting for a dyno plot.

as per exiges.com the reflash is £395 + vat and the new ecu is £795+ vat.The stealers should not charge more than this and if they do plans motorsport can also offer this service.
If you have an A spec ecu then you have to buy a new one.
hope this helps, cheers Ed

emerald also have plans to release a compatible ecu so might well be best to wait and see the results of that.
I hear it will be out before christmas.

How much ! is it worth it just to lower it 500rpm , change gear faster so you dont lose the revs and it stays on the second cam anyhow .

This is the reason why I want to see the torque curve. It is "easy" to stay on second came but you need to stay a little more with the red light on and change gear quickly. So feasable it is but still in some bend it is not possible to downshift quickly to be at 6500-7000 for the bang and then still in the bend upshift without feeling the back oversteering...

Few posts on SELOC in the past..... you'd need other mods to get the benefits.

Just a theory that there's no point unless you uprate the airflow to the engine.... data mainly comes from US toyota tuners and Lotus supercharger program.

Some highlights...

<<In Italy Adolfo (www.adolfoelaborazioni.com) Workshop use Emerald M3D last version (Rover VVC) with a special VVT controller selfmade on 111R and Exige2.

With complete exaust, Sprint Filter induction and a different timing of the cams he has over 220 BHP with over 30 bhp more at 6000 rpm (brake, not rolling road).

The lift change works at 4000 and not more at 6000... >>

<<A member on this site is trying to crack the standard Lotus ECU and see if it can be done. Hoping with remapping it you may be able to boost some power and torque but most of the guys who've tuned it in Toyota’s say the power drops away if changed to early. I noted a TRD manifold which may help but increasing flow rate - not sure whether it fits the Elise or whether it would make a difference. When i researched it some US tuners had altered the cams to make a more consistent profile through all the powerband....... on std cams they only changed the change over to match other mods typically between 5800 and 6000rpm.

This sites worth a look - TRD manifold...
www.fensport.co.uk/partsfiles/zzt230exhaust.htm

They also run a modified TT190 Celica.....
www.fensport.co.uk/fensportcarsmain.htm

<<CELICA ZZT231 TRD M - The engine is modified, using lighter pistons, re-profiled camshafts, lighter valves and a lighter flywheel, pushing the 1800cc all alloy engine power to 200bhp, with terrific throttle response, making this lightweight car surprisingly quick.>>

This is before they supercharged it up to 260bhp !! >>

<<Would need to change more than just the crossover point though (cam timing, fuel + ignition mapping), as most rolling road plots of the 'wild' cam show it really dropping way down in torque/hp below the current switchover point.

So just putting the switchover lower would make it rather uncomfortable as power would drop sharply after the switchover before coming back as the rpm's rise again.

Bye, Arno. >>

First thing first here, Does this affect your warranty? I've still got a year left to run as most of us here own R's/Exige's who would have this done it's a major factor

Boggy

I'd pay £400 for it thou

i believe the lotus motorsport flash does not affect the warranty but im sure the emerald will. Probably best to ask your stealer/plans!

That looks like a lotus press release? Not 100% sure if this ecu is what I have or not. Thought my cam was coming in more like 5500 than 5750. Also my understanding was that this ecu/remap was to be used in conjuction with induction and exhaust as there would be little benefit in a significant cam change drop without increased airflow. (That figures as supercharged cars switch at 4000.)

I have no idea about warranty I must admit, never even asked. Although I have a complete replacement ecu, so my car could be returned to a lotus dealer for warranty work with its original ecu in place.

Hi Si, I know i used to go on about your traction control always being switched on ! Do you now notice it coming into play with your lowered cam change?

Rick.
