I have a 111R which is the fastest standard model and apart from its theoretically ballistic 0-60 time I can't help but notice the sheer number of new 'bread and butter' cars which have massive performance, and not just the newest diesels. I know Elises/Exiges are not just about straight line performance but surely they need to be quicker than modern 'b and b' cars? Caterhams and Atoms etc are also all about handling but they are also extremely fast. I think mine needs about 250bhp but a £10K supercharge (with all the necessary bits) is more than slightly stretching my budget!

So, what do you think?

Hi All,

I know how fanastic the Elise is to drive and all the other things which make me love it to bits and never want to change it but I suppose what I am getting at is that 'in the old days' when I was young(the 80s) a car like a Lotus would not only look fast but be genuinely fast compared to 'b and b' cars. Now 'b and b' cars are so much quicker I just wonder whether the Elise should be too. Do you want your neighbours diesel saloon to have equal or more power/torqu and so better straigh line performance?

However, I agree with what a lot of you have said..

Blimey! is this still going then???

Just exercised my 111R against an Impreza STi. 0-40 I was faster although helped I think by the Elise being easier off the line, after that he pulled 50 yards and then I held him.
