Been on the Cerb forum for a while but now after an Elise - so Hi all
I have got an option on a '00 W plate type 79 (Black and Gold, gold wheels, yellow and black leather int.)with only 13k on the clock, hardtop, SH and pretty pukka cond.
There were only 22 RHD models ever built but some think they can don't command a premium.
I love them and would pay a little bit more. Am I wrong if so what should I pay?

Seth, hello
and welcome to the wonderful world of the best Elise variant (IMvHO of course
). If the car is a good one and everything checks out it's probably worth a small premium over a standard S1, but not a great deal. Rarity value is nice though because you do not see these around very often and it really does turn heads.
The "Heritage" edition (as it's known) was made primarily with the Italian market in mind, and IIRC there were about 150 made in total see www.elises.co.uk/models/heritage/index.html for full detail.
There were only 22 RHD models registered in the UK, of which you could either purchase with the 111s VVC engine & 'box or the standard 118bhp K Series. If the car you are looking at is the 111s version it will command a premium over the standard, perhaps £500 to £1000 I guess. Someone like 'mustard' (from Nick Whale) or 'apprentice' from Adrian Blyth's will be able to answer that better than I though.
The key thing is what is that car worth to you, in comparison with other comparable ones which are being offered at a similar price.
I'd say for a 111s version in tip-top nick you're looking around the 14k mark and for a standard around 13k.

Hi - the car you describe looks exactly like one I was looking at buying 2000 (W) Reg Type 79 with new tyres, hard top and full lotus history from London. BEWARE I had an HPI done on this car during the week and it is a Cat-d insurance write off. It also shows as 0 previous owners (when the guy who was selling it said the previous owner replaced the front clam. It was also supplied in Northern Ireland and has had a plate change which makes its history all the more dubious. As a rule, I believe the special editions are worth a slight premium - not more so because of the rarity value, but surely it's more important to find an Elise which has a straight history. I would only touch this one if there is evidence of a good repair with invoices from a Lotus main dealer, and have pictures of the Elise just after its accident so you can determin the extent of its write-off. Absolute maximum I would go to is £9k - what does everyone else think?!
PS: THe car you're looking at might be a different car, but with there only being 22 RHD versions I would be very careful to make sure it's not the same one.

Looks like you've been on ebay too!
Thanks for the info.

S works - thanks for the pointer.
I really like the type 79 - I am in no rush to buy - although the empty garage is looking bare since I got rid of the Cerb.
I need a bit of a bargain to keep me in budget hence looking around at this time of year. But who knows - things change so drop me a line when you are ready to sell.
Cheers,
S.

Seth, re: your email. I tried to email you in reply and via PH profile but both got booted by your orange email account.
So... apologies for my tardy reply - just got back from
a 2 week vacation. In answer to your question I'm not thinking of selling right now. At the moment the car's got about 28k on the clock and I've recently had it B serviced with the cambelt and a new exhaust and it's (touch wood) behaving itself.
So I guess in short he's not for sale at the mo.
Are you set on a Heritage model? If not now is a great time to buy, lots of cars about at good money.
All the best,
Tim

Hi there,
Very new to Elise's but I was looking at a car on Autotrader today that seems to match the one described above...
"2000 LOTUS ELISE 79 2dr Convertible Special Eds, 13,800 miles, . 2000 W JPS79 special edition - only 22 ever made! Black/gold wheels. Only 13800miles. Hard top and CD player included. Priced for quick sale. £12,700 . ono."
It's in London (nr the Dome) and I was going to have a look at it....sad becasue there is no way I would touch it if it is the said car above, looks so nice - exactly what I wanted :O[
