Engine re-build...bit by bit. Possible?

Did racing green give you any indication of the engine health. To be honest I'd advise anyone buying one if these things to go in with a big fighting fund in reserve in case it goes tits up, even if it's a good one.
It's got a slight knocking...tappetts and some other bits are being done, so hopefully they'll know more once under the hood...I'm hoping that if it's done 70k without imploding, it's got enough miles in it to see me thru til rebuild time...eek. Could do a rebuild now, but would be painful! donutsina911 said:

if its got 70k on the clock and its making those noises then you`ve got to face the inevitable.B3NNL said:
Your other option of course would be to buy a used engine from someone thats gone for an LS etc. They are out there and there are some good ones. You wont get the 3/5 year warranty of course, but you could get the replacement and fit it between £2k & £3k.
That's an interesting thought...thanks In truth, I think I'm going to have to take a man up pill and just crack on, subject to RG inspection and seeing how the land lies..

So £20k plus VAT ?
I assume - unfortunately, I no longer have that email, so can't say for certain.Having said that, it seems that many companies do not quote prices with VAT included, I don't know why this is, as most who own TVR's aren't getting them sorted via their company!
I don't get it ... you buy a car "trade" from Racing Green and its engine is ste , then you haven't the money to sort it. What's the rest of the car like chassis / brakes / interior ? What "trade" are you in ? it would appear not to be the car trade. I bet in a few years time your mates are saying " My mate bought a TVR , it was ste, cost him a fortune " ... Some people need a reality check .

Don't hold back, tell us what you really think Edited by m4tti on Thursday 16th October 20:28
Oooh mister glow worm I was trying to be sensitive and I asked the question that he knowingly bought a car with a knocking engine and it seems at that he has spent all the money he had buying said car then comes on here asking questions then has a go at people trying to offer advise, not that I would have fecking clue as I have only had TVRs for 20 years
No seriously mate
Once you get the report back after the engine has been taken out and they tell you what's wrong don't feck about trying to bodge it up and do it in sections
As you say take a man up pill and get it sorted
Please I am not having a go at you but you can't feck about with these cars or they will let you down and don't listen to people saying just do this and that it's a false economy, trust me I have been there and just recently let a so called friend loose in two of my cars and my god I wish I never, if they read this they fecked up a wheel on my T350 and tried to hide it, they tried to trace miss on my griff and cost me £500 to find out it was not Spark plug leads and loads of other stuff, turns out camshaft worn
And another so called friend changed changed slave cylinder in my Cerb as it kept going and I
Asked him to check why and after paying the arse he said it was bad slave cylinder but two months later it went again and turned out to be wrong size master cylinder
When I asked him that it was the wrong size master cylinder causing the problem he said tuff not his problem
Moral of this story don't feck about with idiots go to the likes if tvr power pay the right money

Would you talk to someone like that face to face or are you just being clever behind a keyboard? Some on here have mastered tact and decency - you just come accross like a prick. My trade is irrelevant (although I ran the one of the largest motor finance companies in the UK).... I asked a genuine question, based on knowing that I'd need to spend money on the car (every aspect of it) and I've got the answer I needed .Personally, if it were my Tuscan S, I would try to get at least £12k together, be it savings, loans and/or Visa credit card. I have a feeling this is what it would cost (minimum) to get your Tuscan S back to rude health.
These cars, especially the power plant cannot be done on the cheap - it would only cost you more in the long run, and you'd hate the TVR experience because of it.
IMOHO, of course.

I think that's good advice...totting things up, £10k seemed the minimum...and it'll just mean a few sacrifices elsewhere later this year...sure it'll be worth it These cars, especially the power plant cannot be done on the cheap - it would only cost you more in the long run, and you'd hate the TVR experience because of it.

I would tell anyone face to face ... get an expert before buying a Speed Six and get the chassis checked out on any TVR ... and make sure you have enough money or expertise to maintain the car .. seems common sense to me ... sorry if you think I sound offensive but it's just the facts.Editted .. My understanding of a "trade" purchase is you fore go any warranty which is why Racing Green will charge for any rectification. Is it still on Harvey Bailey dampers and springs ? 'cos that's another £1000.
