This. The biggest pain in the arse is the dismantling half of the car to get the cables out of the way. Stock up on tea and swear words.

Dismantling car trim is properly the easiest thing to do on a car..

Retrieving the fasteners from next door and getting it all back together is another thing.

I'm looking at either a DDPAI Mini 2 or the M6+.

Lots of talk about the mini2 having a capacitor which is preferable to the battery in the M6+. Do we really have to worry about battery's overheating in the U.K.?

I've had a Mi Witness since 2014. It has been working OK but apparently the manufacturer cannot afford to keep the software up to date so I can no longer view any recordings through my IPHone. This means that to view anything I have to remove the device from the car and view the SD card on my PCs.

I'm changing my car in the New Year and will look at replacing Mi Witness and my Road Angel with a device that does both jobs. Anybody tried one?

Yes.

Every one of my cameras the battery knackered in short order. Just ordered a SC for the möbius will probably replace the 0806 with the 07

Reason being it dies as soon as the engine does so does not always record the last minute. Plus date and time always wrong.
Obviously the last minute might be the one I need to save.

Damn it why they make the ddpai 2 silver looks a good neat unit otherwise

Any recommendations for a unit that will record front and rear that would be suitable to mount in a convertible (Z4)?

I guess the options are a windscreen unit with a rear facing lens or a secondary camera which would sit in the seat hoops.

I used a bicycle handlebar mount to put a mobius pointing rewards - clamps around the tube of the seat hoop.

The Mi Witness does that and works fine BUT as I posted above their hardware does not seem able to keep up with Apple and other technology .

So, without wading through 186 pages, what's the current thinking on the best dash cam with the following features:
-Small, light, compact
-USB power (not intending to hard wire) / battery
-Card size >32Gb (I presume this is needed for recording HD video >five hours)
-<£100
-Decent footage, night and day
-Easily removable

Help!

I use a Mini 0806. It's small and you can turn the screen off by default if you find it distracting. It's easy to slot in and out and takes whatever card you want to throw at it.
Quality is good in both day and night use and not expensive. It's not USB and although I didn't hard wire mine, I managed to hide the wires behind the centre console and plugged it into the cigarette lighter in the back of the car so it wasn't visible in the front and the also leaves the front charger free.

Got this from Amazon

Very very pleased with it, when parked up, it does a timelapse

Whe it senses you moving it turns back to a regular dash cam

Tucks up nicely by the mirror and the app is excellent
May do the job but that website.... text from China via Shoreditch?

"mini is built with the 2nd generation remote button which is more fashionable and functional. "

Yes, I want a fashionable button.

"Filter lens, frames and subtitle editors help you to make your photo story more like a movie.
More fun you add, more “likes” you get."

Indeed.

I've got an 806 at the moment, but the £100 dashcam that gets recommended by the 'experts ' is the ddpai M6 plus

Personally I would say Mobius or Street Guardian SG9665GC. Some people like the Mini 080x but they are flaky. Korean cameras such as the Lukas LK-7950 generally have the best video quality but are less discreet. Cameras with a Sony Exmor sensor have the best night vision.
Lukas now market a variant of their cams under the name Qvia. Same user friendly interface and wifi and image quality in a Blackvue style housing. Pricey but a great cam.

Probably the Ddpai M6 +, techmoan thought favourably of it and it has really good low light capabilities

Having read a little about the M6+ am I correct in saying that it's not as simple as 'plug and play' as you might expect? i.e. there is no screen on the unit so you have to pair with your phone and use an app?

I guess I'd like something that:
-I can simply carry with me and attach to a mount in the car quickly
-Turns on automatically (when plugged into USB) and/or I simply press a button
-Loops recordings
-Ideally no stupid apps or gimmicky things - I'm happy to plug the SD card into my comp to view any footage
-I can connect to USB charger, wires over the dash aren't a problem (i.e. I'm not fussed about hard-wiring the unit)

Any suggestions or does this not exist? Looks like the Street Guardian SG9665GC might be the one for me? (although it's well over my initial £100 limit)

I've just bought an 0826 with the hardwire kit for well under £100, looks like a decent bit of kit, hopefully get it fitted in the car next week.

Previously bought my wife a mobious dashcam, that quickly stopped working frown

Last weekend decided to look online, and a few seemed to rate the Halfords offerings. So bought a Netbase 312GW.
Easy to install, and set up.
Had a look at the picture quality on my PC and looks fine.

I will install the mobile app later to see how easy that is to takes extracts of the dash cam with.

But for now im pleased, and have the security of knowing any issues, its easy to take back to Halfords.
Whereby the previous Ebay seller was a nightmare.
