I've just found this very handy utility to convert routes saved by AutoRoute (and others) to TomTom (and others!) itinerary files:
The utility is small, has no instructions, but is fairly self-explanatory. It will convert from AutoRoute, MapPoint, MapSource, etc. and will save in a variety of formats, including the .itn file used by TomTom. Will also go the other way (probably less useful), converting TomTom itineraries to AutoRoute. Also, AutoRoute allows you to optimise waypoints into the shortest journey - something yet to be added to TomTom.
This is especially handy, as it's much easier to add waypoints (pushpins) in AutoRoute - save to your TomTom and it will religiously follow them.
One small point - you need to close AutoRoute once you have saved its .axe file. It hangs onto the file, preventing itnconv from opening it.
