pjskel, bad luck. drive wise the d5 is great, though through corner, i dont trust it too much, the Four-C adaptive dampers , i always have it on sport
i think bmw 330 is the better drivers car, volvo though more class. hope u get a test drive soon..

Thanks - the deal was a stonker. 18's, Xenon, Winter, Sports, and 11K for a 2003 SE car. All for £10,950!
There's not many D5s with Sports pack, used.
Ah well, life's a bitch......allegedly.

Had a go in a Civic yesterday - nice, but felt very nervous. Steering VERY direct and with 17's, moved every time a bump or dimple on the tarmac appeared.
Of course, this was over a poor B road, but still, important to know as I see some of those often with the job.
My main concern about the S60 is it's handling over similar roads, especially when the bend tightens. Current rental Mondeo Zetec is forgiving and feels well planted and stable.
I wonder what effect a set of shorter, stiffer, progressive springs would have on the D5, with 17's?
I'm not looking to horse the car on at every twisty, but there are times when I need to make up for lost time.

So, it's either a D5 or possibly an Accord - the 90K warranty is certainly a major plus, as is the JD Power rankings. But I DO love the D5 engine and design. Those rear shoulders are beautiful. Now, if only Volvo offered TVR colourings - thinking Spectraflair - mmmm........ :sigh:

330D is out - as is 320D. Too much money for all there is, and I like the turbo surge. The S40, Civic and BMs had none of it....well, the Civic had some but not what I recall on the Accord. Maybe I'm just too used to the Mondeo and I'll soon get used to whichever after a week or two.

hi pjskel, £10,950 for the D5 that is an amazing deal. My D5 has w pack, sports pack, with back spoiler, these 18inch 235 wheels that cost 170£ each when i replace them . I have the smartnav which is superb, black it cost me 24,000 one year ago, ex demo. you should look for another d5, over the twisties, it does feel planted but its a big car so hard to direct. I have lost it on an icy bend at 30mph but managed to control it. Why dont you go for the other swedish model- saab 9-3 td?

Cheers K321 - Saab doesn't interest me for some reason. Do like the Civic dash and layout.
BUT......still come back to the D5. Probably due to the price they can be picked up for and that it is a lovely car, even with the turning circle of a barge.
I'll keep looking.

Oh, one other point to ask - given I'll be doing circa 35K miles per year, what am I likely to fork out on?
Tyres - how often and how much, typically?
Services - based on 2 services, one of which will possibly be the cambelts change in and around 80-90K?

Does anyone use Bio-Diesel either wholly or in part? Found any problems doing so?

Anything else I've overlooked, feel free to mention.

Thanks guys.

My D5 was really good on tyres (Continentals) and the fronts lasted for over 15K and that is with a heavy foot and I wasnt paying the bill for tyres. I think they were around £90-£100ea but probably cheaper now. The servicing wasnt cheap but that was a main dealer and diesels are always a little more anyway. In some ways I regret not buying mine from the company and miss its mix of comfort and decent turn of speed.
