Anyone know what the bit sticking up on the back of the roof is on the new S80? kind of aerial or something?

P.S. Just noticed, when I blew up the pic of the cockpit, the sat nav, could that be the sat nav aerial?

Here's looking forward to my test drive.

Shark fin thing as mentioned is used for sat-nav/gsm phone, theres a reason for it even if Bm and some other people use it, put simply gives a better reception even if it does look naff otherwise they wouldnt fit it.

All your comments are from the perspective of after market POWER.

Well yes, that's primarily what interests me. I'm not a car designer, nor manufacturer, so the 'all round' performance and costs don't bother me that much.

Having said all of this, your first post was all about performance, so that's what I answered! Performance Volvo tuning I can tell you about...selecting a powerplant as an OEM I can't. Best ask Ford about that one re: Focus ST...!

You're using some abbreviations there with which I'm not familiar, so I can't comment on those, but I don't see that the Volvo whiteblock family perform that badly in comparison to their competition...and certainly not in the eyes of the consumer. Perhaps my main critism of the units would be size and weight (the ally 5-pot weighs about the same as the old iron 4-pot!). I'm not suggesting they're engineering perfection incarnate, but your original post made them sound hideous beyond belief, which (if the SI6 is anything like their past engines) would be a gross exaggeration.

Your comments imply that you've already had one of these engines in pieces. I'd certainly not like to make such sweeping criticism from the cut-away press photographs Volvo have released. Have you had access to an SI6? I know a number of people who would be very interested in hearing more about this new engine, if you have.

I'll try to remember to check back a little sooner, this time!

cheers
