OMG eek

It has been some 10 years since I have been racing 1:10 scale buggies and I'm back on the scene after some months checking out the competition in terms of which chassis to go for.

Just collected my new Xray T2 008 tourer today and had a quick look inside. I have never seen such beauty in an RC before. The quality of the kit is fantastic and the set-up manual is almost twice as big as the assmebly one!!

Can't wait to build it bounce

All I can say to the guys at Xray is bow

Build quality of Xrays is excellent, I had one for a short time, it was an original T1 with I had coupled with the chassis of the T1R.

I was a Yokomo man at heart though.

I won't be building it just yet, I need to get some wheels and bodyshell as these don't come with the kit!! Also need to obtain the upgrade pulley set to solve some issues with belt wear on the car. Thankfully Xray are giving them out as free upgrades which is nice fo them smile

No mate. It seems the whole sport is in decline to be honest. Also I don't have the time and energy to devote to it in order to be half decent again.

Rc is definately not in decline as a whole, some classes are going down (10th TC) others are on the up (12th 10th off road) -

10th TC is in a down phase because of the current uncertanty about motors / cells - once we get a season of Brushless and Lipo under our belts things will balance out and TC will begin to grow once more

I'd have to disagree with you about the sport declining, It might be different in different areas, but I race up north (www.southlakesmodelcarclub.org.uk), a couple of years ago we were down to only a handful of members, but recently weve been getting new members coming every couple of weeks and were back to having a very good turnout every meet! thats running both 1/10 touring cars and 1/10 buggys!

Good luck with the xray, there great cars by the looks of it, i did consider one but i didnt want to feel out of date in 9 mnths when the T3 or T2'009 came out lol. Get a checkpoint money motor in there on a QC3 and you'll be flying!

I've just been looking on apex models' website to see what kit is available. I knew RC was expensive when i raced but its got even more so now! £170 for speed controls, £75 for batteries and motors.

I used to have 5 packs of race batteries and three motors, so about £400 of kit for the same now it would be around £600. Or can you get more than one race out of a battery pack and does one motor suit all conditions?

One club near me races the mardave v12's so I could get all the kicks of racing without the cost

These days, it seems as though 3 packs of cells are all you need.
That's all I've got (total cost less than £45) and despite charging them up the night before I can run 5 races on the 3 packs (5 mins each race) without recharging! If you went for lipo then one pack would last all night.

My esc is the mtroniks £30 one, motor limit of an 11 turn, it's tiny compared to my old Novak of 1o years ago. I'm sure you could spend a lot more (and to be honest I probably will!) but it's not as bad as you'd think.

I agree with peetbee there, yes, it can be an expensive hobby, but the prices you are quoting for speed controllers, batteries and motors sound like they are for the very top end equipment, and, unless you intend to compete on, say a european level, you really dont need to spend that much! for club racing, standard un-matched nimh batteries will do, at more like £30 a pack, stock motors are around £30, and speed controllers, well, ive never seen or heard of anyone spending £170 on one! (Ive been racing for 10+ years). £100 will get you a very very good one! they start at around £30.

NiMh's dont mind being re-charged after a race (once theyv cooled a bit), so 3 packs will do for a days racing, unlike nicads that you only used for one race

These are what I was looking at, sorry about the caps I'm copying and pasting

ESC - LRP SPHERE COMPETITION BRUSHLESS

Motor - LRP VECTOR X11 BRUSHLESS MOTOR - 7.5 TURNS

Batteries - ORION CARBON EDITION 3200 LIPO BATTERY PACK

I am well out of touch with the whole electric scene, and nitro pretty much. The last time I raced electric was around 98/99 with a losi xx, trinity Kinwald motors, Novak racer esc, Orion 1700 scrc's, and a KO EX1 Mars radio.
