I don't want to build the tempest but the group voted for it so thats what I'll build if I want to participate in the PH group build. And also be able to vote in the next round.
You may like the next rounds model, in that case you may build it and get a vote for the round after that.
It's only a £5.00 model, it won't break the bank.
If the 'winner' were to chose, say 5 kits for voting, and the rest of the GB contributors voted, that might work quite well. You may like the next rounds model, in that case you may build it and get a vote for the round after that.

BTW, the magnifying lens I'm using isn't £300-odd one, it's this one:

It's great. Perfectly adequate.
I'd be against that sort of 'rule', to be honest. To my mind it introduces a level of clique and maybe even elitism that is really not neccesary.
I personally look upon this as a bit fun, a nice distraction. If it starts to get over run with rules and regulations I think it can only lead to dissuade people from joining in. Just my tuppence.
For the record, I voted for the Lavochkin

Yes but on the other hand why should I build a model that someone else voted for but had no intention of building?
If the people that are so far participating in this build had their votes counted, I wouldn't mind betting that we would be building the Walrus or La7
Sorry, the argument just doesn't stand, for me.If the people that are so far participating in this build had their votes counted, I wouldn't mind betting that we would be building the Walrus or La7
I didn't vote for the Tempest, but am building it, as that is in the spirit of the original thread. I really can't see that restricting who can vote is going to encourage people to join in. It just seems a surefire way to create a clique like atmosphere, which is surely the exact opposite of what is trying to be acheived.
Just my views. Surely, if that is the route which this is going to take, then a better approach is to have a theme and people can build what they like. Of course, then there's the decision of which theme and who gets to decide......
I guess that's the hurdle that will be crossed sometime in the future.

Taken to an extreme we could all end up building something for the GB that nobody contributing actually voted for, which is crazy.
If someone 'wins'a GB, then I think it's perfectly reasonable that they should choose 5 kits for the next one as a sort of reward. They would then definitely end up with a model they want in theier collection. It's as good as, or better than a 'prize' IMO.
I didn't vote Tempest either, but I'm also building it.
It just seems a rule for a rules sake to me. To enable a system of only certian people being able to vote, I would suspect that that would require a sub forum that only certian people can access (those deemed eligible by previous participation in a GB), which thus by definition excludes a group of people. That doesn't sit well with me.
Allowing the 'winner' to pick five kits is very different than defining who can vote on which of those is eventually chosen.
It just seems to go against what I took to be the original intention of the idea. Maybe that's just me, maybe I'm a lone voice, wouldn't be the first time. I would certianly be very uncomfortable with any mechanism that restricted access to anybody. It's meant to be fun, afterall.
In light of the fact that I have a rather splendid cider chilling nicely and the smoke alarm is ringing which means dinner is nearly ready, I'm going to make that my last post on the tetchy subject of the next GB's workings

Well, I've got some Double Drop with my name on it, which I will consume before continuing with my crane model (steadies the hands!).Allowing the 'winner' to pick five kits is very different than defining who can vote on which of those is eventually chosen.

All I would say, is that there would be no need for an exclusive sub-forum, just let everyone who completed a GB give their vote for the next model - by a normal post - on the GB 'completion' thread (before a set date) . All we have to do is count who voted for what, and that's the result. Free for absolutely anyone to see and comment upon.
Can we let this one go as planned? I know there are views and we can discuss them, perhaps in another thread to keep this one on the subject at hand.
As far as I am concerned this is meant as a cheap way for us to have a bit of fun, enjoy the company of some like minded people and maybe learn something new or impart some knowledge.

Well I have never entered a GB before but thought I would this one because it is only a cheap model and I guessed the competition would be a lot more relaxed on a non modelling forum.
I think Dr_gn's idea would work, as it would encourage people to join in at some point if they wanted a say in future builds. We will never satisfy everyone's favourite choice.
Personally I would of hated the Walrus to build. But that is my personal choice and so I would not have joined the GB. But that wouldnt mean that I would like and join in on a future one.
Remember guys, no one is forcing anyone to take part.
P.S. I think I got the last Academy one on Amazon lol

I think it's absolutely OK to build a Typhoon – whats 21" and a laminar flow wing between friends?
If we were building a Spitfire, there would be a lot more difference between a Spitfire Mk5 and a Spitfire 24 than there is between a Typhoon and a Tempest.
I don't think you've been trying hard enough If we were building a Spitfire, there would be a lot more difference between a Spitfire Mk5 and a Spitfire 24 than there is between a Typhoon and a Tempest.
There are currently 19 suitable kits on evilbay, 14 of which are advertised by "Top rated sellers"
