Inspired idea about Portillo, you say he has come onboard?
To be truthful I've arranged for him to speak at a charity event in Wakefield on Mon December 5th. He'll be talking about his political career including his role in saving the Settle/Carlisle railway and his broadcasting career especially regarding the Great Railway Journeys.
I plan to ask him if he'll do the 15 min narration for me from a script later the same week.
Incidentally if anyone wants to come it's £45 a ticket and all profits to charity.
They go on sale mid June.

i Little Ex here my Dad was showing me this thread,.I saw an advert that said "Doers do things and dreamers dream things", you are without a doubt a doer.

The train train looked like the one I saw at Brooklyn Palace in 2015.

100% that looks real life.

Thank You for sharing your pics.

Best regards Little Ex (aged 10)
Thanks for that. You, your Dad and anyone else whose interested in a viewing in a few months time will be more than welcome to come along and see it. I'll give details nearer the time.

Bit of an update..

I've been working on boards 9, 10 & 11 which is the final 12ft of 4 track mainline before the first double junction. So altogether about 50ft of 4 track main line is almost complete.

On board 12 & 13 begins the first of two double junctions which stretch over 3 boards (12ft). The two tracks then diverging from the 4 track mainline then begin a descent over 40ft parallel to the 4 tracks before entering a short dive under tunnel to pass under the four tracks and head towards Huddersfield.

Pictures are of the final 3 boards before the tracks begin to diverge and the black and white one the actual point we are at now and the fun begins!

I used to use the cut through here to get to the track and annoy the drivers

Little copse here..

The nearest two tracks are the ex Lancs & Yorks Calder valley line the furthest two the ex LNWR main lines.
All in all we are about a third of the way along the 180ft now. As I explained the track is laid, made and ballasted by Norman Saunders (who does it professionally), the frames are by White Rose Modelworks who also wire each frame before passing them back to me to complete the scenics.

More updates when the junction is built and gantry installed smile

Christ I remember throwing a thin chain across the track I used to hang my keys on at school. What I didn't realise at the time is that it was enough to activate the track circuits and set all the signals to red. There wasn't any trains for an hour which was as a 12 yo making me wonder. Then a DMU came growling past at walking pace the driver shaking his fist at me. Never run so fast

Mini update.. here is the first point which makes up the double junction, its around a scale 40ft long and you can see the template of the other point next to it and before it (out of picture) will be a long crossover. All in all this makes up the scale size junction which is about 12ft in length.

Norman Saunders a pro track builder has even obtained the original drawing from Westinghouse who manufactured the point motors in the 1970's/80's. All the cranks will move when the blades move and point motor heaters are yet to be added. The 3 cranks you can see will be linked together by a long metal bar.

In the black and white pic you can just make up the gantry and bridge which is shown at the beginning of this thread (and is the beginning of the model). Everything from there to the junction on the model (about 48ft) is now complete smile

Anyone who wants to come and have a play nearer the completion will be more than welcome. Should be housed in an industrial unit by early next year. When it is I'll probably live there myself smile

Another update..

I'm at around 50ft (from a total of 180ft) of straight 4 track mainline but progress has slowed while the first double junction is being built by Norman the master track builder. Here is the first point of the junction - its to scale and when finished all the cranks and cables (to be attached)will move.

Its been a frustrating couple of weeks as I spilt a whole tub of green dye I use to colour trees over some pristine trackwork. I've rectified it now and it looks a bit like there's been some permanent way work so hey ho.
