We are off on holiday pretty soon and the villa has a pool.
I fancied taking a cheap rtr boat to entertain the boy. wink
Obviously it has to be small for transporting, not much more than 12" I would guess.
I have had a look on ebay but there is so much chinese tat I'm finding it difficult to sort the ok stuff from the stuff that will fall apart.

Anyone bought any of these cheapo rtr boats?

The magic v got a very good write up by the gadget show ag few years back, though I preferred the look of its stable mate, the magic cat. Still not bought either mind you.

Boss recently bought a 'Dash II' which he says is brilliant fun for him and his 7 yo son to play with. I think it was around £40 inc. postage online.

What we noticed was that there were some 'copies' out there with the same mould and even the same graphics on the side for about £8 less on the market, I don't know how far the similarities go though.

That looks very like the 'Magic V' and the water wizard looks like the same hull on amazon. Which one is the copy?

I always thought the Dash II was the original, but with so many Chinese models out there it's hard to tell. Certainly it was the Dash II which was on the shelves of High Street outlets this Christmas gone, which suggests it's the genuine article and has a proper UK importer...

Don't tell me how you get on! I'm guessing they all come out of the same factory and that the only differences are the boxes 'exclusive to xxx'. That said i did find a reference to some of the newer ones being 2.4ghz radios.

I will let you know how they are, it will be a few weeks yet though.
Hopefully they will be ok.

Update!
Both boats are very good really. The Cat definitly handles better as the rudder is in line with the prop as it should be whilst the V's one is offset to the starboard side a bit.
Only issue has been with the boy running the V flat out, head on into the poolside a few times which results in the motor/shaft rubber coupling breaking as the motor shunts forward with the impact, a couple of spares supplied though.
I'm very happy with them but can't help thinking they are a shade steep at just shy of 50 quid each.
It has got me thinking of upsizing though biggrin

I've got a Magic Cat too. Mine's slightly upgraded to a 180 Helicopter motor and LiPo battery power. The bloody thing nearly rolls over on full throttle....love it.
Since bought an Offshore Warrior from the same company (Joysway) even awesomer smile
