THat bit of rust was there when I had the car I'm almost certain.
If the owner between you and I did a respray then he didn't do a very good one if its broken out again already. The only way to deal with that properly is a screen out and repair/paint.
Whenever rust breaks through what you see is typically the tip of the iceberg.

that's not a problem.
I will be up in the garage roof tomorrow morning getting the vat of brick cleaner out anyway (Katie managed to get decking stain all over the wall) so will get the exhaust down while I am there.
Need to check if Rescue still wants it and whether it will go in the RoverI will be up in the garage roof tomorrow morning getting the vat of brick cleaner out anyway (Katie managed to get decking stain all over the wall) so will get the exhaust down while I am there.

unos ?
Oh dear that doesn't look stadard, c'om then tell us what "improvements" the previous owners have made, what's on the car, wheel/tyre size, why it needs a roll over bar ect.
. . . and why the hood is up on a dry day?
Have you got the owners Handbook? (if it's not a Eunos as that'll be in Japanese)
Let's get you right with this from the start

Looks like a good one Gordon. Something I have thought about myself.
I'm currently looking at what might be the Ying's natural successor but not sure yet so I'll keep it to myself for now.

But thanks to Mr NA for offering his help. I've learnt much in the last year from the posters on this thread
Successor to GTti - hmm - maybe Avanzato? Small engine Jap and turbo'd I would guess. Let us know when you settle on it
Not turbo'd but small and nimble and not dissimilar performance figures. Unfortunately the seats don't fold so the dog won't fit.Successor to GTti - hmm - maybe Avanzato? Small engine Jap and turbo'd I would guess. Let us know when you settle on it

Drive in all weathers the car was designed for it, not so good in thick snow as it’s RWD with modern wide wheels and tyres but that’s not many days of the year (around here at least, any arguments about that I’ll drag out official statistics, you have been warned)
He lives in/near Aberdeen so that rules out 50% of the year. Hello!
My bet is it's nothing to do with a dirty sensor.
It is either the garage not performing the ignition timing and idle mixture setup procedure correctly, a one way valve (usually the one between the oilcap and the plenum) being the wrong way round or a minor leak in a vacuum hose.
or.... more likely is that all the above have been done correctly, there's an idle screw on the top of the throttlebody that probably just needs about 1/4 turn with a flathead screwdriver.

Jim iirc I changed the front shocks but I don't think that they came with top mounts. Must have been done by owner between me and Gordon.
The wheel went with the car when I sold it. I thought I told you? Sorry
Gordon, don't play with the timing unless you know what you are doing. You'll need a timing light.

Oh for fk sake! They have the damn workshop manual and they get something as simple as cambelt alignment wrong?!?!?!!! The inlet cam will be one tooth out then and performance will be sluggish and fuel consumption will be st.
If you're still taking this to your mates garage, tell them to stop being clowns and check the bloody paperwork when they do things.
They are just plain wrong regarding that screw, that is it's one and only function and certainly does affect the idle (they did short the diag terminal didn't they?).
It shouldn't need advice from me or Nath to sort this out.

Never was it truer that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing
