The Rover is dead. Long live the Rover!

You're still having better luck with your car than me with mine
Used your tractor gasket paper today and will test for more water leaks tomorrow when we get back from Castle Ashby show (can't leave site until after 6.00, yawn)
And then I'll use your kit to test head gasket, and to be sure my neigbour's cylinder compression tester

Rover came out to play today for the first time in over a month
I have acquired the seal to do the gearbox which is crentky scheduled for next wed night (garage availability issue) so won't be at the meet this week unfortunatly.
Anyway, apart from the gearbox proble, dripping oil on JB's drive and the engine vibration, the old boy is running well.
I'm surprised no-one has ever spotted me out and about in the old tub though!

I fear this is turning into a monologue again but here goes anyway.
The gearbox came out of the old boy today and judging by the deposits in the sump it need reconditioning so its off to Romford next week which means it won't be ready in time for the Rover National - First time in 8 years we will have missed it
Hey ho!
Hope to have it back up & running for the Britcar at Wicksteed Park.

Have dsicovered that the gearbox that came out was the original BW35 that went in 37 years ago and had not even had the Rover Recommended updates (which were free upgrades within a year or so of the car being registered) so it looks like the gearbox has never been touched. I suppose 12K miles aint bad before a rebuild
I have been advised to stay with the BW35 but need the later box designated a 303 as opposed to the 7FU that was fitted.
Anyone got, or know where I can quickly lay my hands on a BW35 303 unit suitable for a rebuild please?

The saga continues.
Just goes to show if something aint completely broke leave it alone :S
Would it not be better to fit a later box though considering Benson has a tad more power than original?
Had a chat this morning with a man who knows and he suggests go to the BW35 303 and it'll be fine even with the extra oomph!Just goes to show if something aint completely broke leave it alone :S

I'm back!
Oh, the difference that a well sorted engine and a nice smooth gearbox can make!
Did about 700 miles and it was wonderful to have the old boy back to (or better than) the way he used to be.
I really enjoyed smoking around in the old can and the amount of attention that he gets is incredible. Loads of thumbs up and smiles from the cars I was passing!
The timing still needs sorting properly for crap petrol but otherwise
This week I'll do an oil change and sort the sticky brake lights.

Slight exhaust blow?
Why would that cause the brake lights to stick? By the way I went to use my 21 mm socket the other day to discover that you still hold it hostage, what do I have to do to secure its release?
