A little disappointed but entirely unsurprised to learn that Cav is on his way home. Hopefully this'll be the best of both worlds.
He looked spent in the sprint and in the end did not contest it.
Yes indeed, but he was also the only pure sprinter who was actually there at all - that wasn't a symptom of 'Cav is cooked', it was a sign of him actually doing very well!
Exactly - the suprise in the commentators voice to spot Cav in the melee says it all - fighting his way up the hill on Mandela Day for his team was a credit to him.

He has had his best tour since 2012 - maybe even 2011. A massive well done to him, its a shame he won't be on the Champs Elysee as he is the form sprinter of the tour by a country mile.

But I don't think anyone would blame him as it's the last thing to win before he has a full Palmares as a sprinter (aside from some dumbasses who clearly don't understand cycling on the BBC website saying he is an arrogant splitter who has let his team down).

Dimension Data will be over the moon with his contribution to their tour - I hope he gets his gold, and then 5 more stage wins on Le Tour and he can freewheel off into the sunset with his young family and a massive legacy to the sport.

Absolutely. Would be over the moon for him to get second - he'll be going superbly if he can hang in there. You'd have thought this far in he must be in with a shout of hanging in

Do we reckon Porte is too far back to do anything about him now? He is the one who has the form of the likely candidates

Sounds like she is not as bad as she looks. Some updates on Twitter.
From whom? Looking at the accident I would take anything unofficial with an ocean of salt

I'm so very glad that they're reporting that she's conscious, and communicating, but deeply concerned at the lack of detail WRT the extent of her injuries.
Concussion and 3 cracked vertebrae. Nothing she won't recover from - that is a fairly cheap return for the scale of the impact.

Organisers got away with that one...

The start list for the men's ITT is in

G is in, and Froome starts last.

Tom Dumoulin IS listed on the starting list - tough lad. How will he do on the hills and will him missing a couple of weeks hurt him versus Froome? Interesting...

How technical is the course?

If damp would favour experience and bike handling - though are Sparticus's legs just too tired?

It's drying out pretty quickly.

I was hoping that was all he was funded for - that would be proper Olympic, giving it ago despite the sniggering of some wink

Dumoulin struggling just a sniff - Froome down at the first check, but he does pace himself well.

Dennis looks like he may fade and has just had a bike change.

Froome's next time check is what we are waiting for.

So often greats of the sport can fade away towards the end of their career - great to see a legend go out on a high

I really wanted Froome to win, but I can't help but feel really pleased to see Fabian wearing cold.
I think that speaks for the British Cycling community (except mcelliot), The second half speaks for the wider cycling community.

Agreed.

Sign out on a high. Leave the legend 100% in tact.

I think you'd rather not do it whole sale than start and then bail quickly after - especially if you have aspirations of a medal for the team (if not necessarily yourself).
