Tramadol is being used widely at the moment; it's not on the list yet but it masks pain rather well. Looks like it might be banned soon though:

I was prescribed Tramadol a few weeks ago for a prolapsed disc; Hell's teeth, it has a kick to it!

It used to be Lance Gunderson wink

Sounds like tramadol needs to be banned asap, the UCI can't allow stuff like that to be used freely.

You mean for drugs they can test for at the moment right? wink
Harsh, but perhaps not far off the mark...

I've been watching pro cycling for 15 years and never saw Horner ride like that.

All Vuelta tests clear apparently, so Horner was definitely not using.
...within the 12 hours before his tests. Which were all conducted between 6-7am, as per his ADAMS location window.

Cancellara's going for the hour record next year, possibly at Manchester. As others are saying it'll be interesting to see if Wiggins and maybe Martin go for it too at some point.

If any of them choose to use the velodrome in Manchestoh then I'll be there!

Hutch has been tweeting about it over the weekend, I think Cancellara stands a good chance and would love to be there to see him try. As Hutch said though, its sad that Cancellara commented that he was working with Trek's engineers regarding materials etc, this being the "athlete's hour" record remember!.... I'd say that Hushovd or Boonen could also get pretty close to the record too.

Same as Boonen then, filth.

Boonen and Thor would be nowhere near the hour record, not enough power, not nearly enough.

Are you suggesting that someone riding for Phonak might not be all he's cracked up to be? wink

Exactly.

Fabian is one of the best bets for it.

I'd love to see Tony Martin have a go. He wasn't too far off it the right pace for 160km last summer...

blah blah blah I know Boonen has had issues in the past and Hushovd is not with suspicion but I'd be surprised if a good classics rider wouldnt be close. Would be interested to know what bike Cancellara will use.... cant find a Trek suitable unless they plan to modify one of the tri/tt bikes!.......

You have to think about what makes someone good at an hour all out and a classics race. They're not all that similar at all. I.e wiggins would have got smashed to fk in the classics this year but has the engine to put minutes into most of the people who stuck with Fabian the longest.

Trek will build a one off bike as Giant did for Hutch.

Are these record attempts etc subject to the same regs as the Tours and (I think the Olympics) where the kit must be commercially available - from the previous post I guess not.

Or is it that the bikes just have to be made available at some point after?

Don't have to be commercially available at all I don't think. But the regs are pretty tight for the "Merckx" record as opposed to various HPV marks.

Pretty sure the regs have been tightened since Hutch had a crack at it and now nothing can be made specfically for the record attempt, wouldnt then all the parts, of the frmae at least, have to have a UCI eliegibility sticker like the pro tour frames? It will be interesting to see how flexible the UCI....

I see Nibali is massing more of a team around him for a tilt at the Tour in 2014, Astana having signed Scarponi and Pellizotti as super dopers, er I mean, super domestiques.

It looks as though that Tinkov nutter has bought out Bjarne Riis' Team Saxo and got Google onboard as title sponsor
