Good to see KP back and looking like a man reay to take his time and find his way back after some time away from tests.

KP happy to knock a single and let Trott (the form player) take most of the bowling.

Too many loose balls from the crims, lots of fours, which is unusual at this stage of the game.

OptaJim on Twitter: "Jonathan Trott has lifted his Ashes average above Sir Donald Bradman's 89.8 to 90.4. Only Albert Trott (102.5) averages more

Trott is such an organised player ... some great technically correct shots from him - perfect no.3 for Test cricket.

Root just got a jaffa ...

Interested to see how the Aussies keep going for the rest of the day as Clarke's captaincy is inventive to say the least ...

The question mark against Root was could he cope with the new ball. On todays evidence he has taken a good step towards answering that.

Poor from KP, need Bell and Trott to stay in for a while.

Shane Watson always looks a miserable sod.

Well at 124/4 I don't think thats a predicition many of us would have made.

As you all know I have every confidence in the Hammer of Justice, this is his moment. A solid knock here is absolutely vital.

KP I can understand, but I was hoping for a nice long stint from Trott.

Rats.

He opens for Yorkshire so im not sure how big a question that would be.

Not quite gone to plan so far, someone needs to bring a bit of consistency to the crease!

I am aware of that, just that in a couple of tests he got out against a new ball, and that was held up as eevidence he wasn't ready for test level opening.

I agree. He looked comfortable, just got a good'un. Chef shouldn't be wafting like that though.

Bell could do with waking up now though. He's a senior player now, needs to act like one.

Fair enough I'd not read anything of that sort. FWIW I think Root will make an excellent opener he could well open for the next ten years.
