My mate Ben came joint 4th at the KLM today.

Really pleased for him, he's struggled a bit of late so this was a nice week for him.

Hopefully he can kick on and secure his tor card for next season.

Boys, if anyone is interested I may be selling my Garmin S5 golf watch. Let me know if interested!

Only selling as I'm probably going to get the new Apple Watch so will use that instead, silly to have 2 GPS watches....

A better round from me yesterday, 33 points with 3 blobs. Chipping and putting was really good.

Still average at best off the tee but better than my recent efforts. It was very windy so generally pleased.

I have a Garmin S5 and it's excellent. I definitely wouldn't be without one.

I'm actually selling it as I have the new Apple Watch now so will use that (no point in having 2 GPS watches!).

I think I've sold it to a guy at the golf club but if he pulls out I'll let you know. I'd like £125.00 for it.

Blobbed both the 1st and 2nd holes yesterday, thought it was going to be one of those days but rallied to score 31 points despite also blobbing the 18th.

Soooo windy, really tough.

31 is good scoring with 3 blobs, especially in the wind we had at the weekend.

Our season is sadly over now, but went out for 27 holes over the weekend and ended up 7 over in total, so looks like I've peaked just as the season is finishing! To be fair our winter league starts next weekend, so going to give that a go.

Also have my first lesson in 10 years later on this evening.....ever so slightly nervous my swing is going to get ripped apart.
Yeah, just so annoying. I literally can't seem to play a round of golf without 3 blobs at the moment.

And before anyone asks, all 3 holes were blobbed with irons off of the tee! 1st hole is always a struggle - just never seem to get away very well.

2nd hole is a simple enough 170 yard par 3, but it was into about 5 clubs of wind and I just didn't make a good swing, and followed it with a terrible chip.

18th hole was on the back of a bogey and three pars in the last 4 holes on one of the toughest parts of the course with the wind, and I think I stepped up with my 4 iron too confident! Just off the fairway but really nestled down and I ended up with my bogey putt lipping out (no shot hole).

Other than those shots, it was a pretty steady game of golf really. Short game was typically solid, missed a few 12-15 foot birdie putts.

Winter foursomes start next week so that should be fun!

Single length irons are being taken seriously by the bog boys.....

Thoughts?

This makes no sense to me, why would you have full cavity 8-pw?

It's all to do with the weight (or lack of).

The long irons have less weight than normal because the shafts have been reduced - therefore they have extra weight put in the club head.

The short irons have more weight because the shafts have been increased - therefore they have weight removed from the club head.

I think it gets quite scientific!

But they're trying to make out that it makes sense for golf, when it really doesn't. You don't need cavities from 8-pw, you need them 3-7 at a push.

THe 8-pw would feel horrid, what a shame.
Would they? Most sets of irons (unless you use blades) have cavity backs down to PW. Mine certainly do and they're supposed to be for 'better' players (Ping i25).

I don't want to be horrible, but the i25 don't look like 'better player' clubs?

That'd be the iBlades, which look very nice.

IF you haven't tried a forged blade, try one, and you'll know what I mean feel wise.
They may not be a forged blade, but they're most certainly not a 'game improving' iron!

The i irons are the i25 replacement. They're not a forged club, but were used on Tour by many Ping pros including Lee Westwood who have now gone over to the i.

In fact, Lee Westwood uses the i irons in 4,5,6,7,8,9,PW and even UW.

The iBlade is the replacement for the outgoing S55, however the iBlade is still a cavity design although the cavity is filled with an 'elastomer.'

You Ping fans, and ya fakin shovels tongue out

Only joking, everyone needs to play what is right for them, and the iblade is one of the nicest irons I've seen for a long time! Would definitely 'game' them.

Rosscow, sorry for being a barsteward, but the i25 is definitely spade-esque compared to the iblade, which I'd say is the playa's club.

Please don't mention Westwood, he loves a spade! Ping had to beg him to drop his old Ping Eye 2's, with massive bounce eek
hehe

Here's the outgoing S55 blade, the new iBlade and the i

And here's the i and the i25. Not much difference at all between the two.

And if they're good enough for Westy, they're more club than I'll ever need!!!

I read a review of them just after posting, they sound pretty good clubs to be fair.

How has your season been so far?
Pretty poor to be fair, mate. Not played enough really (once a week) and definitely not practised enough!

Have gone up from 15.4 to 16.2 (missing buffer zone on 5 occasions by one shot..... argh!!).

Went through a fairly big change in posture about 8 weeks ago which I think is showing some benefits now, but my tee shots are still my Achilles heel. Short game is good.

You?

How tall are you? That's the same setup as my Titleist AP1 irons, and I'm 6'5".

I appreciate height isn't the only consideration, but there aren't many people I meet that have clubs longer than standard.
Hey HBL, I'm 6'2".

I'm surprised you only have an extra 1/2", there's someone at my club who is 6'4" and he was fitted at the national Mizuno centre and he has an extra 1" on his irons!

My previous irons were 1" longer, but they weren't properly fit. Just an American Golf "you'll need an extra inch" affair.

I got properly fitted for my more recent clubs and the fitter said Titleist don't like doing more than about 1/2" longer. How true this is, I don't know.

I guess the length of your arms will have a big impact, which is why ping measure wrist to floor. I've got relatively short legs and quite long arms and body. If that were the other way round, in theory I'd need longer clubs for the same posture.
Yeah, sounds about right if you're built like an ape biggrin

I really like the concept of same-length irons. It looks like they're not available in the UK yet, either Sterling or Cobra, but I reckon I'll be in for a set when they are.
The UK YouTube boys have them (Rick Shiels, Mark Crossfield, etc.) but Cobra won't let them release any reviews until 1st November.

So I'd imagine they'll be available next month some time.

Ping S55 4-PW CFS X Stiff
Vokey SM5 Custom 52/56/60 S400
Scotty Cameron Futura X 34"

For now anyways...Got a 917 driver & 5 wood on order and a matching 816 hybrid. Booked in at Ping for a iBlade fitting too, love the S55's but they are showing 4 years of hard use.
Nice bag!

I've never had a TM product (apart from the odd pack of balls I've won!). Can't say anything of theirs grab me.

Its the playmore.golf scheme. £325 for 100 points. My issue is that due to the birth of another baby, yet another year goes past with not much golf played.

So I have paid in full, in advance, for my 100 points, but any I haven't used after 12 months go in the bin.

So over half my money this year has been wasted.

I'm not really complaining, as I knew the rules when I signed up, and I have got what was promised. But however flexible it is, it isn't flexible enough for my needs, so they wont be taking any wages from me next year.

Sadly, I don't have a better local alternative, so pay-as-I-play it will be. Sad.
So you've paid £325 but over half of your points are going unused?

Doesn't sound like you've played much at all, have you managed once a month?
