Didn't look up for it at all.

Meantime, a break, my kingdom for a break!

Wow - awesome job by Bedene in 5 sets. Referencing an earlier comment, Kvitova seems on good form and that was also an enjoyable watch today.

Good to see Jo easing through her match, Heather continued her Eastbourne form (although still a bit shaky when it came to serving out the match points) but sadly Naomi went out. So a bit of a mixed day for the Brits overall.

Part of me is a bit disappointed Kyrgios had to withdraw through injury as at times you get some great gameplay from him and he's a pleasure to watch like that. But on the other side at least we now won't have to deal with his alter ego when things go wrong.

Would agree that Robson needs a bit more time. The wrist injury hit just when she was getting somewhere in the rankings and playing well and it was a stty bit of luck...its going to take her a year of match play and high level competing before we see her back to her best I think.

Heather needs a mental coach and by that I don't mean a nutjob! smile she's a very good player and if she could turn round that side as Konta has done she could do some serious damage in a slam or two...she's won a couple of tough wta titles already...shes good.

Konta needs to toughen up a bit IMO, I think she'd pull out if she split a nail.

Bedene agreed good affort.

Muzzard through the first round in straights, good start and hope he builds well.

Bit of down time for Djokovic & Federer today with their respective opponents pulling out through injury within an hour.

Sadly only 1 Brit survived today - Kyle Edmund. Had to feel for Katie Boulter - played, and won, a decent first set and it looked like she could ease through, but instead it drifted away from her as the lost set appeared to kick her opponent into gear.

Bernard Tomic gave an interesting interview to the press after his loss to Zverev. Basically saying he's bored of tennis, hates the sport at times and doesn't respect the game before going on to say he's just going to play on for another 10 years, rake in the $$$$ for just taking part (based on how some tournaments seem to pay high 5 figure sums just for being knocked out in the first round) and then quit knowing he'll never have to work again hehe

Edit - quite funny watching Wozniacki having a mini meltdown over what she feels is an apparent lack of efficiency of the ball boys & girls and telling the umpire to concentrate harder laugh

Great win for Heather earlier on.

Kona having a bit of a wobble against her opponent... Hopefully she can stamp her authority on the match.

Looking forward to Murray vs Brown later on...!

Brilliant match between Konta and Vekic.
Should be a good match here between Murray and Brown.

Excellent result for Heather - totally different performance to her previous match the way she cleared it out pretty quickly. Azarenka up next I think, who she's also playing against in the mixed doubles in a day or two when she teams back up with Kontinen from last year.

Good news for Konta too - a very enjoyable game to watch and I must admit I thought Vekic was going to edge it but thankfully Konta held out.

Bedene played well to get through too.

Kvitova sadly just out - looks like it was a combination of her opponent kicking up a gear at the right moment and also a couple of injury concerns, including her wrist by the looks of it.

You may or may not know but in Dec her flat was broken into and the intruder had her at knife point. In the struggle her left hand got sliced, several tendons damaged. Her surgeon did not think she could play again. To top it all they still haven't caught the person. Anyway this explains her lack in fitness and ongoing issues with her hand.

Oh yeah, was aware of that. That's why I felt gutted for her really, especially after she's managed to get back to playing so quickly after what happened. I'm just hoping she hasn't damaged something in her wrist and set any ongoing recovery back frown

Kind of used to his commentary so I don't think I notice if he is awful. I don't find myself thinking that though. He made a few good observations in the Murray match I thought.

The message of what he says is good, but it's often not well expressed.

I got that from your first comment on him. You said 'Is it just me?' so I just replied I generally didn't. No need to apologise or counter debate it really!

Boris is alright...knows his stuff. I don't see that he comes across that badly its just his style of delivery.

Konta looked great today...Murray up and down but he's still in it.

Gutted for Watson but she just needs to learn to stop worrying about losing the big points and embrace the opportunity. She could have beaten Azarenka today if she just went for broke...worse that can happen is you lose giving it everything. She knows she did not leave it all out on the court today.

Well thats interesting! No doubt its a very different perspective live.

Nice day to be on centre!!

It just looked to me like Watson noticably got very tight when it came to the crunch in the 3rd...Azarenka not at her best for sure but Watson does doubt herself too much.

Yep Murray looked bad on the tv as well! I know he's a passive player generally but its like he never tries to finish a point any more.....ever! You could see him hit nothing balls just to get them back, no pace at all and you just knew Fognini would then open up and he was in trouble. His confidence looks so low and I don't get why. Djokovic I get as he had to have a down time after so long at the top and losing his no1 status but with Murray its just weird....physically he may have suffered recently but mentally he looks totally shot! He did well to get that fourth set from 5-2 on the telly how did it look to you on court?

Nadal looks motivated and awesome. If Murray gets to the semi's he will get ruined if he continues like this.

Very jealous! clap

Murray's groundstrokes looked really off. Obviously lacking confidence and penetration, too many just sitting up and asking to be returned with interest. Hopefully he'll gain in confidence, look at Nadal's match and come out firing next week. He was far more aggressive in the second half of last year.

Gutted for Heather as I thought it was all going to plan after the first set smile Sadly it wasn't to be frown But at least she got her own back by knocking Azarenka out in the mixed doubles later the same day, so her & Henri are still in with a chance of keeping the title from last year. Unfortunately she & Naomi lost in the doubles earlier this afternoon in a 3 set game frown

Andy seemed to let himself get too easily drawn into Fognini's plan to throw him off last night, but thankfully put himself right to get the game finished in 4 sets as I had an awful feeling that was going to get dragged into a 5th set followed by the usual 30 minute delay whilst they shut the roof to allow the lights to get turned on and the game to go on later into the night.

Poor Tsonga this morning also suffering a repeat of the French Open. Game gets suspended for bad light and the next day he has to come back and serve to stay in the game, but instead gets broken knocked out in just a few minutes.

On a side note, I've been quite enjoying the last couple of days of red button coverage of some of the outer courts and British players games. It's made a nice change to be able to just sit down and watch some games with just the umpire calls and crowd / player ambience without having some of the incessant waffling commentary.
