Even if he wins though, people will say that he won because he didn't have to play Nadal or Sampras in the final. He needs to win this and then beat one of those two in another slam final.

If you win you win!

So he didnt have to beat 1 or 2 of the greatest players the game has seen, somehow I think he will take it.

yes...you'd better believe it Zod, because it'll be true.

Me for starters.

But ffs, Henman never had this big a gift-horse to gape into...If Murray don't win it now...

It's not as if Henman was on top of Ivanisavic at his favourite tournament or anything.

anyway, after looking at the stats, the facts, Murray has been to 2 GS finals, Henman didn't get to any.

I think he's going to do it - I've always said that if there's a tournament that Murray would win it would be the US one, seeing as he was the Junior champ a few years ago (2004).

More because all of the people left at this late stage of the tournament are eminently more beatable than the terrible two-some.

Isn't that how a tournament works? Those that win the matches stay in?

Eh, what people? Only that chippy bloke who started this thread.

Are you only a grand slam winner if you beat the number one or two in a grand slam tournament now? Is your win not as valued if those ranked above you were knocked out by someone else? What nonsense.

You've started this thread about how Murray would never win a grand slam tournament. Now you're trying to say "even if he wins this one it doesn't matter".

Your fixation with him is a bit creepy.

"Chippy bloke" hehe

You're right though, your win is not as valued if those ranked above you were knocked out by someone else...how can it be? Being the underdog and winning is always more 'valued'.

Beat either Nadal or Federer at some point in the run up to winning a slam. Others wise he's flattering to deceive.

All you can do is beat whoever's in front of you; if Murray beats Ferrer and then Djokovic to win the Aussie Open it will be a very creditable achievement IMO. I think he'll get past Ferrer but Djokovic has been playing excellent tennis throughout the tournament and will be a real hurdle to overcome if he maintains that level. However, I think Murray can do it and I hope he does; I also hope he'll get the credit he deserves but maybe that's too much to hope!
