Bugger. This will fire him up for Paris. Nothing like Andy of old and he knows he can make the finals at will now so he'll be relishing the season ahead. Only annoying thing is he won't have a chance to complete a Grand Slam, only the guy who wins the Aussie each season has a shot at that.

Great attitude from both there, IMO Murray has completely turned himself around and was very humble and eloquent in his speech. His day WILL come here and at other slam tournaments.

Did I hear correctly - £100000 for the runner up and £1.6m for the winner?

800 for the runner up, 1.6 for the winner.

What is disgraceful is that the women get the same prize money.

Agreed - goes against every single rule of equality. They want equal pay? Play best of five set matches like the blokes do. I simply can't understand how they got away with it.

I'd personally love Nadal to come back and get into the mix in these semis but I am 72.3% sure that he is done. He'll be back, but I think his injuries are too severe to allow him to play anywhere near the level he is famous for. If he can't play at this level, any top 20-30 player will handle him with relative ease. His results are due to his high-octane and physically punishing game, and his injuries are due to this style of play. He is like a car that's been tuned to within an inch of its life, it will give mind-blowing performance but only over a short period of time before components break down. In this case, the components can't be replaced. Mind you, most wouldn't mind retiring from their sport early with the haul he has now! Amazed he has lasted this long to be honest. Although some things do make me wonder..

Federer will be around a while yet so we'll still be treated to the master of class for another 2 years at least. He just needs to maintain a smart calendar so he is fresh for the slams. When you are getting $1m+ appearance fees just for turning up though..

When Roger goes do you realise that the top 20 (going by today's rankings) will only have THREE single-handed backhanders?? Absolute disgrace so it is.

And not one of them using a wooden racket or wearing knee length socks. Anyone would think it isn't cricket, let alone lawn tennis!

Great play from both of them today. Andy looked on a par with Djokovic for the first 3 sets. A real shame his foot gave up, but it has been a punishing end to the Aussie Open for him.

But unlike wooden rackets, one handed backhands still have a place in the game and actually have a few upsides to the two hander...

Back on topic of the final, only saw the first set and a half, looked liked Murray was all over Djok, did Novak step it up or could Murray just not keep his level up?

Not a fan of either player, but feel surprisingly gutted for Murray.

I thought Andy looked more in control in the first two sets. Just physical fatigue really. Those pundits that are saying that Djokovic 'has another gear' etc have got it wrong I think. He just was able to keep up the same standard and Andy couldn't.
