Does any know if this bat is any good for a beginner? Im looking to play again after many years of not and have no kit. I want to spend the winter in the nets getting back into it and if I enjoy it and want to continue will flog my triathlon bike and buy some decent kit, but dont want to shell out now.
I looked on ebay but because of my height I need a long handle and only long handle stuff I could see was either expensive or vintage.
Its currently got money off so seems good value to get through a winter and start of next season?

I have the bat, pads and gloves from these guys. They are really good value for money and the bat has a great middle on it (when you find it - I've only knocked the edges in on mine)I looked on ebay but because of my height I need a long handle and only long handle stuff I could see was either expensive or vintage.

Never heard of the company and i never used to order online (before my playing days lapsed) after id got a top end v600 for a birthday (requested) as a teen and ended up selling it to a mate as i hated it, as you need to handle and feel the bat imho, apart from some bargains on indian made bats (various non top end BAS vampires, SS (Not stuart surridge, the Asian SS) and an MRF i had or others i've sold to have had success with) they are often amazing value for what they are, but it can be hit and miss. i honestly don't know what to say on this one as i see your predicament not wanting to shell out, but with bats usually you pay for what you get and i would always avoid a bat at that price point, as 80 quid for a piece of crap is just throwing money away, but then again it may be fine for your needs, simply an unknown, as its all very personal.
If it was me i would look to a friend/relative and borrow one, most clubbies have a selection of bats either in use or gathering dust that they would be happy for you to borrow if you know anyone (assume yes if going to winter nets - although LH may be an issue), or chance my arm on online on one from the subcontinent.

I wondered about the Indian bats as I saw a few on Ebay with free shipping. I suppose one thing I probably should have said as well is I was always a pace bowler and No 11 batter, the bat will get minimum action so there really is little point getting anything decent, unless I discover some hidden Joe Root talent over the winteri honestly don't know what to say on this one as i see your predicament not wanting to shell out, but with bats usually you pay for what you get and i would always avoid a bat at that price point, as 80 quid for a piece of crap is just throwing money away, but then again it may be fine for your needs, simply an unknown, as its all very personal.

Sad news. Zimbabwean legend Heath Streak has passed away.

So I'm getting back in to cricket big. I've signed up for the foundation coaching course and spoken to a local club who are keen for more coaches. They also have some opportunities to play and operate a fair selection process for their teams so I can have a spot if I'm good enough which is good. To be fair just having a crack in the nets will be good for me right now if nothing else.
I got a bat off ebay. A Newberry Zeus. Its in pretty good nick, one crack that needs a little attention but nothing major. It's lighter than I was expecting. I'm a big lad though, Stuart Broad size, that's where the similarities end unfortunately.
I've booked a couple of coaching sessions for myself.
Does anyone have any recommendations for books or YT channels etc with some information on basic techniques etc. Its been 30 years since I played. I was a swing bowler and keen to pick that up again and also keen to get into batting a bit more. I was ste when I last played but that was partly because I was a small ( I just kept growing), timid 13 year old playing with 15/16 year olds (my club had no younger teams) and was st scared of the ball.
Also any recommendations for cheapish pads, gloves, helmet etc. I'm looking to get some basic kit, see how I go over the winter and if its all good then start getting some better kit next year.

They've been bowled out. Amazing.
Cricktracker had Ned down as 0% chance of winning the WC now bowling out Pakistan
maybe a parrot, but wtf are you talking about?! bowling a team out isnt unusual...Cricktracker had Ned down as 0% chance of winning the WC now bowling out Pakistan

Associates are not so weak especially 'the netherlands' yeah right...bas aside...
And Pakistan are a basket case mostly and probably other things at play although you hope Mickley Arthur is above that, but it's honestly not unusual for a team to not use their allocation in an odi. It's quite common and any bearded wonders can probably do some sort of analysis of associates vs full members if they cared.
That's all my point was, it's not an unusual occurrence or any indication of achievement tbh. Had they got them out cheaply in side 50 overs then yes, that would be a bit more noteworthy, but such is the randomness of cricket its actually not that much. If they go deep in it then thats noteworthy.
Anyway this must be the least exciting, worst publicised, built up WC...zero buzz, poor crowds little interest outside the home team and nearby and the BCCI simply don't care.
Sad sight for what was the showpiece in cricket. I remember being introduced to Bangladesh team as a kid in 99 as they were hosted locally and despite them then being an associate and being aware of none of their players it was a huge deal.
This all seems like an afterthought.

T20 cricket has been nominated as a potential Olympic sport for the 2028 games. IOC to vote on its inclusion next week.

A policing nightmare potentially. Probably unlikely but if India lose there will be trouble.
I don’t think there’s a lot of Pakistan supporters there mainly due to visa issues. Gassing Station | Sports | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
