Had a cheeky 9 holes inbetween DIY on Sunday afternoon, just on my own. Shot 41 in quite blowy conditions so was pleased.
Driver went really well.
Just booked myself in for a session with a putting coach to get my putting swing sorted and get a nice shiny new flat stick custom fitted.
Aiming for that single figure handicap next year!!

No-one seems to be concerned by the fact that the American picked her ball up without being sure the putt was given, in a world event. That is diabolically stupid.
Petterson could have perhaps handled it better but the yank was hardly blameless.
Would any of you have assumed the putt was given bearing in mind the situation she was in?
When the opposition players and caddie walk away from the green as soon as the putt rolls past the hole, then yes I probably would - I'd probably double check though!Petterson could have perhaps handled it better but the yank was hardly blameless.

You're right - if she picked up the ball without hearing or seeing (a nod for example) a concession from a European player, then she is completely at fault.
But if the Europeans hadn't conceded the putt, they shouldn't have made for the next tee.
Half a dozen of one and six of the other.

Jordan spieth makes me sick. He's incredible. If he donated 10% of his ability to me I'd be a bloody scratch golfer.
He's just won $10m and doesn't even look that bothered!
I don't like him. I find him irritating to watch - I don't think his overall game is as good as others, but his putting gets him out of so many sticky situations. He's just won $10m and doesn't even look that bothered!

You'd have been impressed with my sand saves yesterday, Jim.
3 bunker shots, 2 of which I put to 4' and saved par from, the other one was on a down slope but I managed to get it to 12' - 2 putts though.
These are proper pot bunkers as well. Just 3 tee shots that cost me yesterday. A hooked drive on the 1st, a fat 8 iron on the par 3 7th and a wild swing with the driver on the 13th.

I'm a terrible putter - by far the worst part of my game.
Take a normal 20-25' putt. I might have one like that on every other green. Ish. So say 10 for the round.
In a normal round I wouldn't hole any of them. I'd 3 putt half, and 2 putt half. So 25 putts.
Speith will sink 2 or 3, and 2 putt the rest. So 17 or 18 putts.
7 or 8 shots gained on me within 8 yards of the hole.
We could play absolutely identically from tee to green and he'd beat me 8&7 or 6&5 or some other whitewash.
Different world.

Out of ten 25' putts I would probably hole none, but I may only 3 putt one or two. My putting has greatly improved over recent months.
25' putts on the greens they play on, mind, and it could be a different story
I'll be honest, I don't think things like Game Golf are good for your golf. Sure, they give you some good stats, but I think that you end up thinking about too many other things whilst trying to play.
I've gone away from using GolfShot for yardages. I much prefer my Garmin watch, it tells me everything I need to know instantly, without anything else to distract me.
I played with a friend the other week. He had a GPS range finder, used GameGolf and also kept looking at the course planner he bought in the pro shop.
He was sooooo slow to play with, and spent more time working out the exact yardage (to the yard) than he did thinking about what shot to play and his swing. He plays off of 20! there's no need for it.
My golf has improved this year, and I think that getting away from the iPhone on the course and going back to basics has really helped.
Fill out GolfShot at the end of the round in the bar, I do that most of the time. It's easy to remember the round you've just played.
If you really want to use something like Game Golf, then I reckon the belt clip thing would probably be better as you don't need to pick up your iPhone to use it.
This is just my opinion - I don't want to cause an argument!!!

I've got a mate who plays to around 26/27. But my god if he isn't the slowest golfer known to man. He'll do all of the above, then stand over the ball for a good thirty seconds before actually hitting the shot. Only to hit a huge slice of top it off the tee. Then when you finally get to the green, he takes on average 3.4 putts. I wouldn't mind that much if he'd just taken up the game, but he's been playing for about 5 years. He's a nightmare to play with. A two ball round is easily over 3 hours with him once you've helped him find his ball etc.
3 hours? That sounds good! We normally play a 2 ball in 3 hours or so.cheddar said:

Ahh, the 20 handicapper with all the toys. What a joy it is to wait while they go through their protracted hole planning, club selection, tee selection, ball alignment, windage, practice swings, set up and address He was sooooo slow to play with, and spent more time working out the exact yardage (to the yard) than he did thinking about what shot to play and his swing. And then shank it

Over 3 hours usually so around the 3 hour 30 mark, which IMO is the pace a 3 ball. I played with one of the lads a while ago who is a similar standard to myself, managed to get round in 2 hours 30! We didn't lose a ball between us in fairness & did have the course to ourselves which made a nice change.
Blooming heck, 2 hours 30 doesn't sound much fun to me tbh :-/kentlad said:
Trying to sort out our yearly golf trip with the group I play in. Anyone got any recommendations? Criteria being somewhere in the South of England. From Cornwall to Brighton & anywhere in between.
What time of year and for how long for? I've been to quite a few now! Would recommend:East Sussex National (2 excellent courses)
Goodwood
Mannings Heath (Waterfall Course is lovely, Kingfisher course is OK - you stay at the South Lodge Hotel which is bloody lovely!)
The Oxfordshire (where I played the other week - very good but only 1 course)
St Mellion (the Nicklaus Course is really tough, so if you have higher handicappers perhaps not the best choice)
I'd also highly recommend a hotel in Bournemouth (great for a night out) with rounds at the Isle of Purbeck and Remedy Oak courses - both stunning courses.

Thanks for the suggestions. We'll be going sometime between May & July! Going to do the usual 2 night 3 round break. We played at the Bell in in Brampton last year which was decent enough. Will have a look at those courses, cheers!
I wouldn't go near the Isle of Purbeck, only played it once, it is such a difficult course (links course) from memory I think I lost about 9 balls during a 5 hour round one Saturday, unless you are single figure handicappers that can play in the wind, don't bother, we also played Ferndown which is a very good course (something to do with Peter Alice) but you would have to play it on the Friday.always wanted to play remedy oak

They look good.
Have to say that I'm not a fan of the newer style of shoe that has emerged over recent times. To my eyes they look all out of proportion and as though folk are walking round with big suckers on their feet!
I agree - can't stand any of the Nike/Adidas/Under Armour shoes, they're just trainers with spikes which, in my opinion, should not be allowed on the course.Have to say that I'm not a fan of the newer style of shoe that has emerged over recent times.
