How is he breaking the rules?! If he were he would either not be competing or altering his putting technique. He is extracting the Michael a bit though by apparently being anchored for his practise swipes before moving his anchored hand away from his chest. biggrin

Good luck to him I say. I remember when he used to suffer terrible yipping so in someways it's understandable that he's sticking as close as possible to what has been working well for him recently.

I guess I might be in the minority but I don't want Langer to win because he's breaking the new rules about putter anchoring. Everyone else has threw away the long putter so why not him? Even Monty mentioned in the commentary that BL is still using the putter as he always did!
100% agree, its anchored. Maybe not how he used to anchor, but its still against the rules. (His left arm IS anchored against his torso)

His left arm definitely moves as he swings the putter, therefore , and I am guessing, not anchored.

I would have thought if he were breaking the rules he would have received a penalty or three.

Knowing his attention to detail, he's clearly established that whatever he is doing is most certainly NOT against the rules, albeit maybe it's only just on the right side of the law.

Its been written about lots since the rule change, but basically, a lot of people and the R&A/USGA didn't envisage players still using the style Langer is persisting with.
They (R&A & USGA) won't question/call out players that are saying they are not anchoring (unless its 100% obvious), let alone a stalwart of the US & European tours.

I'll be watching him closely later! I'm guessing he's possibly managing to anchor above the elbow, if that's even possible?

This is the most captivating Major of the year for me, I adore the course, it's treacherousness, its history and the utter perfection of the grounds.
There's an air of sophistication, a pleasing aloofness that, despite the massive crowds, means you don't hear "MASHED POTATO" being shouted on every hole, in fact the spectators appear polite, appreciative and knowledgable, almost English with a touch of Wimbledon.

Caddies in white overalls? Why not, they look smart, perfectly in keeping with the arena and I don't miss seeing Steve Williams in his shorts and sockless trainers.

For the players there's tension beyond anything they face on the test of the tour, you can see how they spend way longer over the ball at address, how they think, calculate and still find more trees than Tarzan, Speith was visibly nervous yesterday and his game was off, boy did he putt well though.

Who'll win?
My betting slip says Speith, my heart says Langer (he's not anchoring) but my head says Matsayama

Not being heavily into golf what's the meaning of shouting mashed potato?

I have heard a few yells of "Gedd'in the Hoewell" though. hehe

Westy doesn't quite putt well enough historically but this is as good as I've seen in a major from him.

Love to see British or European winner. Just got very interesting with spieth on twelve was that a shank?

Course management for wallets now and he can win it.
