There was certainly a fair share of dodgy refereeing, but the overwhelming factor in our downturn was Eriksson's meddling.

England's first team picks itself - any idiot could put out our starting line-up. Where we begin to mess up is when Eriksson starts to tinker. His substitutions are appalling.

If we win the World Cup, and that's a big IF, then it will be in-spite of Eriksson, not because of him.

Some of the team selection and tactical choices are fundamentally wrong.

We can't continue to play Lampard and Gerrard. They both want to play in the same position and are often standing together due to this. Why won't he play Carrick? Let Carrick sit and Gerrard go an play. Lampard is over-rated IMO, and some way short of Gerrard's abilities on and off the ball.

Owen off - no replacement.....Why didn't we take Defoe?

Hargreaves? Give me strength. Imagine having Shaun Wright Phillips to bring on with Defoe. Carrick baby sitting the back four, Gerrard marauding all over the park. Pace up front and on the flanks. Steel up the middle.

I really hope we improve. We were predictable and shoddy in the second half yesterday.

Lampard should play behing Gerrard IMHO

But you are totally right about Shaun W-P....a disgrace that he was left out after his performances in the friendly games!

Totally agree. Lampard is an excellent player, but he's no Gerrard. Sadly Gerrard is punished for being a more complete player in that Eriksson continually plays him out of position.

Instead of a split for defending and attacking between Gerrard and Lampard being 50/50, it's now around 15/85.

My preferred partnership would be Parker & Gerrard as I'm not all that taken with Carrick. I also believe the back two should be Carragher and Terry

Why didnt he go like for like and use Young Theo, some will say hes inexperienced internationaly but the kid is in the squad so why not use him,his pace and feeding of crouchs knockdowns would have been ideal.

No-one has ever seen him play. I think Sven may be bottling his decision now. Unless he wants to unleash him on unsuspecting teams later and not let them have a look at him yet. I don't know. Personally I'd like to see a proven, known quantity on the bench. Hopefully Theo will prove us all wrong and serve us well later on. The Swedes and T+T back fours don't look too pacey so maybe he'll get a run out then.

I think lampard should be pushed out wide........onto the bench.

W-P's exclusion showed everything that's wrong with Sven. Not sure Maclaren will be much better. He doesn't appear to give good advice as Sven's number 2.

Carrick is a very good player. I think Fergie may have been giving Sven a hint?!

Rio is a better footballer than Carragher. Carragher is more gutsy though. Tough choice.

For raw talent I believe Rio is possibly the best in the world, but (and it's a big BUT) his concentration is that of a goldfish. Some say he sometimes finds things on the pitch too easy, and I'd agree to a certain extent, but there's no excuse for a lack of concentration. All said and done the £31m Man Utd spent on him is laughable.

Carragher on the other hand isn't as naturally talented, but is a better reader of the game, and - alike Terry - will put himself in areas where many defenders would pull out through being scared of breaking a nail. People don't give Carragher the credit he deserves. Only that Terry has more experience, Carragher would be my first defender on the team sheet. He's also Mr Consistency - you know what you're going to get.

Carrick IMO is a poor mans Lampard/Gerrard. Fergie wishing to buy him says nothing with his recent record of midfielder signings
