Matters not whether I try to pitch and run, or hit a lob. Practice the shots fine, just have a complete mental block when executing the shot. I end up hitting it either fat or thin............ And getting grass stains on my knees in the process.
I'm not sure if you mean your practice swings before you take the shot are fine (i.e. practice swings without the ball) or your shots are fine when practicing on the range? If you mean the former, you need to get on the range and practice on grass (driving range mats are no good for practicing pitching, lopping and chipping). If you mean the latter it sounds like you have a mental block when it comes to executing the shot on the course. And as Jim says...there's not a lot wrong with a 2.2 putt average. Follow his thoughts to improve it.
But as a simple stat it doesnt mean much in isolation. It could mean you are a very good putter, or it could mean simply that you are a poor iron player and miss a LOT of greens!
Either way I would take 1.9 putts a hole on the first tee every single time.

Played in some beautiful weather on Saturday. Absolutely stunning start to the round, one of the chaps I was playing with holed out from about 150 yards for an eagle on the first hole. I managed to sneak in 2 birdies in my first round in a month and the third guy who played was one shot off his personal best on that track so all in all, a great Saturday morning!
Played another 18 holes at Silvermere yesterday, drove terribly in what is quite a tight course with thick Rhododendrons either side of the fairway on most holes. I picked up 8 penalty strokes (7 on the front 9, 4 of them in 2 holes). I could have played safe but I was playing for fun and not for a score. My chipping was OK but it has been very good lately so a bit disappointing.
On the plus side I 1 putted 3 times and only 3 putted once giving me an average of 1.9.
I also hit my gap wedge over the lake on the 18th to within a foot of the pin in front of the packed clubhouse/inn and got a mini cheer.
I am now losing most of my tee shots left after spending most of my life losing them right (a single lesson changed this pattern). I just need to find that happy medium between my old swing and my new swing which I am confident I can do with more practice.
Onwards and upwards.

No matter how bad your day has been, that sort of thing is how golf gets under your skin. Wonderful stuff.Haven't posted on this thread before...
Having played golf frequently in my teens with membership at my local course and then not playing for about 7-8 years I suddenly got the bug again last year. However this year I am taking it even more seriously and have been playing once every two weeks.
I bought a SLDR driver last week which I decided to take to my local course last night. My slight slice has now become a full blown slice that on one occasion landed not on the next fairway but one over again! Very frustrated but hoping to head back out tonight to fiddle around with the adjustable weight. Ideally going to have to book a lesson. One positive was taking my pitching wedge and hit consistent approach shots.
Seeing as I literally live across the road from the course I have just purchased Nite Hawk golf ball finder torch...basically a UV light which gets good reviews on Amazon so hopefully i'll no longer need to waste money on balls!

Had another medal at the weekend, despite trying to think my way round the first few holes I still ended up 5 over my handicap after 5. Driver was left in the bag for the first 6 holes, but was making silly mistakes like putting a 2 iron down the middle, then missing with the second shot - although to be fair, the wind was playing havoc with club selection. Steadied the ship and came off with an 85 (gross 76), so ended up 5 over my handicap - sadly the damage was done in the first 5, and I've gone up another .1 to 9.0.
I was quite upset with my 85, until I flicked over to Sky Sports in the afternoon, and saw Tiger shoot the same score. I've finally reached his level! Right Nike, where's my contract?
Seriously though I think some sort of lesson is in order, as it's getting increasingly difficult to predict where the ball is going to go. Seems to vary between a block straight right and a high raking pull, and gets 100x worse as soon as I get a wood in my hand.

Making progress on my "become a good golfer" project. Now feel pretty comfortable with my driver and consistently hitting it 270yds, usually within a few yards either side of where I intended. Had one wild one that slipped away onto the wrong fairway today though. Also the first time I played a whole round with the same ball today so was pretty chuffed with that.
As predicted, my Swedish starting handicap of 54 has tumbled and today I teed off as a 37 handicapper. Scored 44 points and put my card in so I understand that means I know get cut to 33. Would like to get down to below 28 before I move back to the UK at the end of July so that I can join my local club and start with a handicap that is representative of my actual play.
Me and my big mouth! Played yesterday. Awful. Played again today. Awful again! I think I'm trying too hard and trying to smash every shot with a club less than I should be. Need to learn to slow it all down and stop trying the hero shots. My playing partner keeps telling me to keep it smooth. Time to start listening I think. For anyone suffering the same issues I was having (either blocking it right or a big hook left) I found the below really useful, tried it out at the range last night, and whilst I can't say every shot went straight, I was far more consistent than in recent times, and was a definite step in the right direction.

Golf novice here, normally found hitting 39 round Farnham Park (3 par, 9 hole) but was lucky enough to get invited to play on the Mission Hills, World Cup course this week.
Due to the fact I never use it, my driver was embarrassingly atrocious but it was a very enjoyable (if stiflingly hot) day nonetheless!

I used to play Farnham Park occasionally. Great fun for £6 or whatever it is now. The first and 9th are actually very good holes.

Seeing the Mission Hills resort from space puts it into a bit of perspective...

Considering when I was there the sprinklers were on whenever no-one was standing!
