awesome bowling clap- deserving of a WC final berth at this rate, NZ got NFI how to score off these gems - not that many sides would (except Haydo & Gilly of course - they'd be 40 ea by now )

looks like we'll get a chance to see...

But SL's bowling is looking better than SA, which is saying something.

if they do smack malinga around, then I'll doff my cap to them happily.

Nah.. I don't rate SA's bowling as that great - I think they are on a par with NZ. Aus bowling is superior to both keeping in mind the key to good ODI bowling is a)variety & b)keeping it cool under presha. In today's game, even the best are going to go at 5 per over on average - it's the big overs at the beginning & end that count the most - not letting 5 turn into 10.

I reckon the SL side is clearly the best ODI bowling line up around and it's just a matter of can the best batting side do enough to win against them? Both Oz & SA are big batting sides but the oz bowlers are def stronger than SA. I reckon if Oz can tonk 280+ off SL then they can bowl to the trophy - SA on the other hand would have to tonk at least an extra 30-40 to have the same hope with their bowing line up IMO.
Nothing but letters on a forum at the end of the day - lets wait and see for real - can't wait!

Well, I'm not sure why it is harsh. Replays seem to show the ball exceedingly close to the ground without fingers under it.

Re: "thrown", see my other thread. I don't lightly accuse him of throwing - but I think if he was from anywhere but the subcontinent (where cricket is very big business for the ICC) he would have been no-balled out of the game years ago.

john, Marali has been accused of throwing many times, each investigation has ruled in his favour, even with this constant cloud cast over his action he has continued his career and become one of the greatest wicket takers the game has ever seen. As an ex player I'm sure you have come up against many unorthodox bowlers with indifferent actions, this doesn't make them a chucker. The cricket world would certainly be at a loss without characters like Murali. He givs his all and who else plays our game with such a constant smile...he is breath of fresh air....and must be a nightmare to face.

I'm not criticisng his personality, or enthusiasm or his benefit to certain fans.

But, my beef with the test is that the results led to a relaxing of the rules and, frankly, the test are run for the benefit of the ICC. As I said before, if it was an ENglish or ZN, SA or Australian bowler, he would have been banned years ago.

RE: unorthodox actions - its not that it is unorthodox. He ever so slightly throws it - I just think it is against the spirit of the game. If the rules were relaxed more, I'm sure more bamboozling slow bowlers will emerge. It is still 'just not cricket'.

Anyway, I hope the final is a good match and we thrash them!!

Well done SL.. deserving finalistsclap Somehow a full SL line up vs Aus seems a fitting climax to this long comp as we have not yet seen as much. I'm sure SA will have plenty to say about that 1st though!shoot
ANZAC day tomorrow and let it be a more than memorable one for the mighty Oz boys. bow
They have set the bar high this comp and smacked everyone, so lets see wot the suddies can do to match or better it.
You lot will notice me by my abscence during most of the semi & final as I'm gonna find a crowd of smelly poms to cheer & jeer in front of in true disrespectful HSV style. For any other Skips posting during the game, can you throw in a token "at least he's not as bad as a soap dodger" here & there for me (just enuf to keep the locals moaning ) and I'll be back post match to either gloat or get kicked!
May the best team win
ENJOY!

If Aus do make it to the final - and it could end up a much more even game than HSV thinks, it may prove interesting as Australia have yet to face Malinga so they said on the telly.

He does bowl wicket to wicket, rarely gives batsmen width and seems to be able to keep that line under pressure. We all know Haydos and Gilly like a little width to get those shoulders free and that Punter likes to play to midwicket before he gets set and sometimes gets it wrong so maybe he is the guy to unsettle the Aussies?

Plus throw in Murali and it could be a good 'un.

I'd like see Aus having to chase a decent total (280+) in either the semi or the final - we haven't seem that yet ... and we havent seen them have a poor start - under four an over and two early wkts is a a poor start for them.

I just feel SA HAVE to bat if they want a chance of winning this semi-final. So you better call it right Smithy boy. If they put the convicts in, they'll prob be 300+ cos the wkt is going to be a good 'un - and faster than Kingston was todat so they say.

Can't wait for 2.30 Wed - and I have the day off too!

For the record I don't reckon the semi or the final (if we make it) will be easy or one-sided. Diff story to the lead-up matches. SA vs Oz is always a big game & often close; I rate it 60/40 in favour of Oz. As I posted last night - a SL vs Oz final is a fitting end to the comp & it will be a close game with the word's best ODI bowling side vs the best batting side. I reckon we do have them covered but it will be interesting to see how the fast start philosophy goes against the tough Malinga line.

I'd say 80:20 - Aus have been looking awesome throughout the series, while SA have lost a number of games. SA are on a slight high from the England game, but a couple of early wickets will put the pressure on them. If only AB can stay on for a couple of overs rolleyes

Really suprised by the SL / NZ match - had expected NZ to win.

In fairness though the ICC did change the definition of throwing. Under the old definition Murali throws, under the new one, miraculously, he doesn't.
