I've seen some open source stuff that would accomplish your tech doc wikki database. I have reached the limit of what I can do on my current gear for espritv8.com. When I upgrade my systems mid-June, maybe we can revisit the issue of some sort of collaborative database. If we get it sorted then maybe we can make it wrappable so that it could be hosted on everyone's information sites.
To me, forums are for communicating and sharing ideas, thoughts, stories and the odd tech support question. IMHO, having an audited (read - vetted - by people that REALLY know the answers - like Kevin Maier, Jim Knowles, Karl-Franz, et al) tech support doc database is a seperate issue.
Great Idea

PS: Actually - I'm going to pass this idea along to PetrolTed, because I think it might be a natural evolution to the FAQ area on each forum that we have today...

I've been following the development of Wikis for some time and like the idea greatly.
The new data structure that these forums are built on has been designed to support this type of contribution.
I won't claim it's near to implementation as I'm still sorting out the revised forum code, but it is something I'd like to incorporate into the forum. The current FAQ system is too crude - something that summarises things (under the watchful eye of moderators) would be much better.
Promises mean nothing of course to this discussion, but nevertheless it's extremely useful for me to know what people want so I can at least attempt to build it.
