Good afternoon guys,

Can anyone tell me what size speaker holes are in the Lotus Esprit V8. Mine is a 96 but I assume that they are all the same across the V8 range.

Kind regards,

Mark

Hi,

Not sure about the V8, but I am right now in the process of installing a component set from MB Quart in my '85 Turbo, the cutouts on the rear cockpit wall are 5.5", and there is a dedicated speaker enclosure behind them, although on my car it is hard plastic w/ no batting. I am adding some polyester batting when installing the new speakers.

BTW, a little tip, don't buy batting from an electronics store, the same bulk polyester is sold at Pet Shops as a bulk aquarium filter media for about a 10th the cost an electronics store charges. Happy Motoring! ...Jim'85TE

Go to the clarion site. They have all the measurements there for V8s if you do a "Build System" ...or something like that.

Just a note.. I believe the dash cutout is 4", however if you plan to use the original G-car "Volkswagen" style grill insert, the speaker itself is quite a bit smaller, something like 3". The oem speaker clips inside the grill housing. If you plan on keeping the OEM grills, I can supply threaded alloy adapters to fit 4" speakers using OEM grills. Jan

Hi,

Just finished the installation of a new set of speakers in my '85 Turbo. I used MB Quart 4" mids in the dash and MB Quart 5.25" woofers w/ 1" Titanium tweeters w/ external crossovers. I used Monster XT cable w/ gold plate connectors.

The mids are running off the stock Alpine head (40W X4) while the components are powered by a Rockford Fosgate Amp (100W X2) using shielded gold plate RCA cable from the pre-Amp outs on the Alpine, wired through a ½ farad Capacitor direct from the battery.

Installation was a b*tch, but the results are amazing, far greater than my expectations. Very crisp highs and outstanding bass given there's no sub. I knew MB Quart had a great reputation, but I didn't realize how good they are. Not expensive for MB Quart either. The mids were $65 the pair and the components were $89.99 from a wholesaler. Now I may even use the stereo when I'm driving... Happy Motoring! ...Jim'85TE

Hi,

I mounted the Amp to the cockpit wall behind the driver's seat, easy access to all the wiring, minimal runs of pre-Amp and speaker wire. The Amp has an external heatsink, so I mounted it with the heatsink up. If mounted just an inch or two off the floor, there is enough space for all the input wiring to attach without being stressed and the seat slide stops about 3/4" short of hitting the Amp case. The headrest contacts the wall keeping the Amp from being contacted by the seat at all, yet provides ample airflow to the heatsink. The carpet also acts as sort of a shock absorber benefitting the Amp as well. I also mounted the external crossovers on the back wall against the sills, about an inch down from the top of the sills, worked out great. Happy Motoring! ...Jim'85TE
