indicator & wiper switches
Discussion
Hi Murray,
The G cars & the early Stevens had BL indicators, same as used on Marinas I think.
I converted an S3 I had by just loosing the clamp that holds them to the column & turning through 180 degrees. I then had to remove the roll pin from the wheel that flicks the indicator off & redrill & insert it on the opposite side.
Hope this helps

The earlier G cars used Lucas switches but I am not sure what car. The later G cars and early Stevens also used Lucas switch but I haven't figured out what they are off either.
There seems to be a lot on eBay which look similar (Allegro etc) but are infact different. If I find out I'll post details.
I have also done the rotate 180 dge mod to get the indicator switch on the left hand side but you have to bend the arms as they will point downwards and the logos are up side down. Looks a bit naff but works.
If you take the boss off of the back of the steering wheel you can rotate that by 180 dge as well, saves drilling

on my car, the intermittent wipe seems to work when you flick the wiper switch to the first position then right back up to off. Can be annoying, but I'm used to it now.

Yeah I think thats the same for mine too. They are the most NON user friendly wiper switches in the planet. Just when you think the wipers are off, then wow how do they come back on!. So you have to turn them back on full then off again to keep them off? Something like that anyway. Bit bizzare.
Yeah, mine does that too. Seems to be that you flick it on, then off and that is intermittant, then on and off again for off.
FYI: The controller is located just above your foot (on a LHD anyway) and is marked "Lucas" and "6A" if I recall. The circuit board looks to be made with 1970's technology and the ground is through one of the mounting screws. Of course, when you screw it into the fiberglass/leather of the bottom of the dash, you don't have a ground, so they put a ground wire on an eye connector to the mounting screw. You can't see it, so if you should ever take it off be sure to look for it or your wipers won't work.

I have the circuit diagram for the 6A controller, if anyone needs it...
Still struggling to identify the IC used (it has a Lucas part number but is probably a 556 timer or similar..
)
You can actually plug the switch connector straight into the wiper motor connector to rule out faults with the 6A if the wipers don't work... you just lose the intermittent function.
What should happen is (with the switch in the 'off' position), pulling the switch towards you initiates the intermittent wipe. It has a truly abyssmal delay period - 3 seconds or more? That's a long way at 60+ mph! Pulling the switch again cancels the intermittent.

I replaced the indicator stalk a couple of months ago on my S2. Looked similar to one on our Landrover. Sure enough the local Landrover dealer had one on the shelf similar, off a series 3 Landrover.
It did require bending to the right angle. Just hold gently in vice and bend with pliers.

Went to the wreckers and had a look thru the British graveyard of bad design ...
Princess-has two stalks but with fancy ends
Allegro-one stalk only with a simple end
Mini-one stalk with simple end
Marina-two stalks with correct ends but wrong internals.
Within each model are quite a range of stalks but none of them correct.
Anyway the Lucas part numbers would appear to be as follows:
Lucas 35378B 3488 LH Stalk (indicator)
Lucas 35379A 4488 RH Stalk (wiper)
If anyone can help identify these it would be greatly appreciated.
