Go on, get a couple of tickets. Decent racing, roving Grandstands (if you buy a seat which would be advisable) and far fewer people than the Revival. Don't worry about dress code, if it's cold and wet everyone will be in Barbours, Driza-bones and Dubarry boots! hehe

Yep, nothing ventured, nothing gained yes. I can always opt out of the 'jolly hockey sticks' stuff.

The on track stuff looks good. The off track stuff is what's stopping me at the moment. I had no tolerance for school type stuff when I was at school. I was someone who couldn't wait to leave school, I have no desire to re live those days now. I think this may be a 'shark jump' by Goodwood.
I feel rather blessed to live in an era where Goodwood exists - its quite unique, superbly done and I don't think it's in the slightest bit elitist. If you've ever met LM, he's the most down to earth chap you could imagine.

So I say take the risk. Throw yourself into the spirit of it all - I suspect you'll rather enjoy it. It's supposed to be fun, it will be. smile

I'm actually looking forward to a good old fashioned egg and spoon race, the last one I entered I won but got disqualified for wearing an elephant costume! Apparently elephants can't run frown

We clearly have very different views as to what is elitist.

Lord March (LM is something quite different if you please) may well be the nicest chap on earth but surely this event is aimed at those with a few bob to pay for GRRC membership and, thus, qualify to buy tickets, to the exclusion of those who, probably, cannot afford to so do.

Quite right too, it's a member's event, keeps the riff-raff out laugh

Quite right - let them pay something between £1000 - £2000* for an Arsenal or Chelsea season ticket.

*I might be talking bo11ocks about the prices as nobody in Europe is less interested in football than I ..... Oh no - that would be my brother; He was offered a free pair of good tickets to the world cup of football final in Germany and turned them down. When his friends told him he should have taken them and passed them on,
he replied that he didn't think anybody would want them biggrin.

I guess if you look at that way, then everything we encounter is elitist, from cars to houses and a lot in between.

The event will cost a huge amount to put on and I doubt Goodwood can afford to put it on for free - why would they?

I'm with NDA on this one Goodwood always puts on superb events and the staff are always extremely helpful and friendly. I wouldn't call it elitist more exclusive. My friend pays a few bob on gym membership, another on golf membership and myself I've just joined the GRRC when I look at the costs to pay for annual membership and all the events to attend it works out good value for money compared to other "clubs" and it's what I enjoy the most.

I've come across a very broad spectrum of members from all walks of life which I encouraged me when awaiting membership. So no it's not elitist.

Could not agree more. I have this same debate about football when someone tells me I play an elitist sport, golf. They just don't get it when I say it costs them more for approx only 19 games of football when I could play every day if I had the time. Working mans game, don't make me laugh, those days have gone.

I ordered my tickets today. Very interested to see what they define as a loyal customer. I'm guessing they already offered tickets out to members of the other Goodwood clubs.

I don't think they do, I'm not a loyal customer, in fact I've only ever been to two breakfast meets and one FOS 7 years ago and I got an email too.

I wouldn't get too carried away as I reckon they'll be a bit of riff-raff like myself attending wink

Email likewise, clearly uptake not strong enough from members. Decided that paying for GRRC just isn't worth it for two events per year, and even then you're just shelling out for the same food and drink in a Second rather than Third Class tent. The only way to do this sort of thing properly is at someone else's expense.

Really does sound like a fantastic Event and great to be able to attend the first one wish I could say I was at the first revival frown
Without the goodwood events we would never see many great cars 20 years ago without these events where would you go to see some of the great cars Goodwood attracts
Looking forward to the Weekend
