Brilliant. Looking forward to showing the kids why I used to love motor racing.

What’s the Silverstone classic like? hehe

Yep Email received. Text received. Twitter done.

A few hundred quid wasted.

Never again.

Not their fault, but I’ve had enough.
No doubt, as with COVID, they’ll be asking people to waive any entitlement to refunds to ensure Goodwood’s continued existence profitability

Could only afford to come for the one day and spent a fortune on accommodation all for it to be cancelled frown Absolutely gutted.

Silverstone classic does have motor racing and festival of speed does not . SC is far less commercial in many respects and focused on racing . Different event not comparable. I prefer it to be honest .

That wheel could very easily have killed someone. Presumably everything goes through scruitineering before being allowed on track?

Snapped drive shaft apparently. Would not have been inspected in scrutenearing. I don't think

Every doubt actually. They've stated people will get refunds. I wish people like you would do a tiny bit of research before spouting tripe.

lucky escape for us .. have been for the last few years along with the members meeting and revival.. FOS got a bit samey and bit less exciting with the increase of ev cars decided id go every other year or every three years so gave this year a miss.. always went friday & saturday .. i know how much i looked forward to it each time .. so feel sorry for for all those unable to attend if saturday was the only day they have tickets for ... looks like full refunds will be given .. tho.. silverston classic is worth going to for cars clubs and classics ,, the tracks a bit rubbish for classic racing its just too big behind so much fencig with too much run off to create any atmosphere , but the infield car display and paddocks are worth going for alone if you need a car fix..

To be fair to Goodwood, they've made a tough decision early enough to limit the damage caused by countless early journeys tomorrow being a waste of time. Mine included. They were under massive pressure on social media to 'make a decision' and they have. Horrible position that they found themselves in, but I can't see how they could have handled this in any other way.

Not familiar with the Mk.2, but I doubt a drive shaft on a live axle would be holding the wheel on. More like the splined hub snapped behind the inner taper. The spinner was still on the wheel when it went into the crowd.

Those wheels and tyres are very heavy. It’s a miracle nobody was seriously injured.

I don’t think anyone is criticising Goodwood for doing what they’ve done. But many people like me will just shrug their shoulders and not bother ever again. This weather is become almost regular over summer, and commiting to a fair few squids that’ll never be refunded is just too much. I’d even go tomorrow just to wander around static cars! But, understandably, that’s not an option.

Motorsport is a load of ***t these days, and this might just be the final nail in the coffin for me.

Cancelled my 3.30am alarm, bit of a lie in, take a leisurely drive down to Easebourne tomorrow afternoon, chill for the evening in my AirBnB then make sure I'm there from 7 till 7 on Sunday, it's got to be done!

Think I'll go check out Beaulieu Motor Museum instead since I'm already down here. Not quite the same but at least it might salvage the weekend a bit...

Must admit, I'm kinda hoping there will be an option to roll over/be first in the queue at the same price for next year.

2 + 2 = 8

Look at the Goodwood website - never trust second, or third-hand information.

I would guess it’s been dictated by the terms of their liability insurance….
