Did the Vickers Vimy do a display flight ?
Yes, it was flying around for ages quite late on in the day on Saturday, and again on Sunday I think. It was fabulous to watch it flying around so low and slow over the airfield. Like a giant toy really. It brought a lump to my throat to think that beautiful machine will never fly again.

It looked perfectly servicable. Close inspection of the engines revealed liberal use of Aeroquip hosing and carbon/kevlar so it was clearly built to be used - indeed flown across the Atlantic. Such a waste of a beautiful machine.
Yup, some turbocharged unit. Nothing remotely old design about them.It needs MONEY - which may not be available.
Don't forget, it is not an original but a replica built in the late 1980/early 1990s. In actual fact, it is the SECOND Vimy replica built. Another one was made to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Alcock and Brown's transAtlantic flight in 1969. This Vimy is now on static display at RAF Hendom.
Alcock and Brown's original Vimy is supended from the ceiling of the Science Museum, London.
So, even if this one is grounded, don't assume that there will never be another.
