There was an enthusiastic bit of flying practice over the campsite on thursday evening, much more entertaining than the official displays!clap
That's the fly-in for Freddie March SoA launch party, they always put on an especially good show biggrin

As above, post-Shoreham restrictions.....but I didn't think the additional restrictions made that much difference, but then, I think Revival as an event would be poorer without some sort of period aerial action during the day, it's part of the event and the history of the theme of the event. People don't come to Revival because of the flying, as it's too limited, just as if all your interested in is watching the racing there are probably better events to go to.
The track need time to clear the breakdowns/smashes up and marshal the cars ready for the next race, so the flying gives a nice fill in between races and adds to the overall wonderfulness of it all.

I think the Revival is a good mix of everything, Cars, planes, fashion.

I took my wife along this year and although not interested in watching all the races out on track, loved the shopping and fashion bits. So the plan is take her one day to look at all that and spend the other 2 days out around the track watching the racing.

The spitfires are always lovely to see and hear, more so given the anniversary this year. Although I suspect we will never see one flying as low as this again...

It was thoroughly stupid, unprofessional & an appalling example to others. Unsurprising though as Hanna had a streak of arrogance & thought he knew it all. This bit of aeronautical showing off sullied his reputation within the ranks of more mature wise pilots.

Isn't that the majority of pilots though?

I have never heard anyone mention this streak of arrogance before. I thoroughly enjoyed his displays. The lower the better. (up to a point obv.)

News to me as well, totally goes against everything I've seen fellow pilots say/write about the man, be it those from his RAF days, his commercial flying days with CP or his many years as a display pilot.

Ditto, it's a shame WJNB didn't put something in his profile so we understand his stance on the matter.

Yup, my father was a contemporary of his in the RAF, and always spoke highly of him

Grumpy old man is his stance, and he's unlikely to come back with a reply if his whinge in the flypasts thread is anything to go by.

The displays this year were a complete yawn. Not Goodwood's fault nor the pilots', and I hope that by next year the knee-jerk over-reactionary restrictions will have been lifted.
In the meantime thanks for that pic, reminding us how flying display could and should be.

Entirely understandable wouldn't you say? Given that eleven people died in a fireball just one month earlier….

Not really. Accidents happen. The safety record is still extremely high for UK air shows.

First I've heard all that, and most likely the last, I've never heard a bad word said about it, or of him.

Regarding the Imp - As they were definitely running pre-1966 (Revival cut-off year) there is no classification (but maybe class) reason why they couldn't appear in 60s St Mary's races. However, as no one nobby/well-connected enough is currently running one we shall just have to wait. Provenance is clearly not an issue, as we saw from the most recent event in which the newly constructed Lotus Cortinas fared far better than the 'genuine' historic examples.
This post has just come to my attention. smile
I would suggest that the humble Imps have taken a step up the class ladder this year due to the fact that a well-known historic hill-climb venue named after them was revived this year. Chateau Impney was a huge success, even though the Sunday weather was a bit moist. Perhaps this extra bit of nobbiness will be enough to get the Hartwells etc invited to the Revival next year.
I used to enjoy those exciting Imp v Mini tussles back in the 60's.smile

On topic, this year was my first visit to Goodwood, and I was thoroughly impressed by the whole event. True, it's BIG, but so well organised with something for everyone ( except Imp fans wink ). No complaints whatsoever from me. I have just bought tickets for all three days next year, and booked accommodation. Bring it on!
