Its a pity we dont all live a bit closer together, i'd love to see these builds, a quick beer with the bikes lined up in a beer garden somewhere would be great smile

Hey Splodge if you ever think of selling that Kuwi frame let me know. Been looking for a total rebuild Kuwi for some time now, they are all restored and its a shame to undo someone else's work thumbup

So is that TA an XL frame? What year? Looks like its brand new condition. I only ask as there seems to be confusion as to which stickers are on which bikes. There are '84 TAs with 'Skyway TA' written on the bottom tube, even though this was traditionally the XL frame sticker (it does have extra long written on the sticker too though). There are also a handful of brand new frames that Skyway had welded up recently using original 80s tubing they had left over. These supposedly have the 'Skyway TA' sticker. And the way to tell is on the fork dropouts - the knurling and skyway writing is on the inside on one and the outside on the other, this is because Skyway only had one side of the dropouts left.

XL frame is 19.5 top tube compared with 18.5 for standard TA.

Nope. Alan's BMX has had to put back the delivery of the clappers to June, and Winstanley has put back the delivery of the grips to end of May.

Think I'm in for a long wait. frown

The Aaron Ross grips turned up today which looked absolutely brill in the packet but they're very long and push my brake levers too far into the curve of the handlebar (creasing the damn powder coating into the bargain furious ).

So I tried cutting them down but I'm not happy with the result - they are supposed to be keyboards which was what attracted me (I drive a computer all day so a keyboard pattern seemed appropriate) and now they're only a part-keyboard.

I'm going to buy some others. I want shorter grips. Any recommendations? These look possible:

Shame about the grips and even more so the powder coat mad

Those other grips look good but also on the long side. If you visualize them with the tapering ends missing they look more like the length of old school grips, or at least they do to me.

I guess the best bet is to find a local shop with a decent array of grips so you can get a better idea of measurements thumbup

I never got on well with the 'shrooms - felt they were too fat and "vague". I would love a set of Oakley B1s though but they appear to have become extinct.

These Aaron Ross ones I bought feel like the Oakleys but are now mangled and consigned to the bin.

I've ordered some A'ME grips. They were around "back then" and with gloves on won't feel too different to a pair of Oakleys.

But that an opportunity for Oakley to make some cash..!! Can't understand why they wouldn't keep production running.

Was going to suggest Ame's, they are a good basic grip and period correct if you are into that sort of thing. Over on the bmx museum there are a fair few TA builds with them on. Did you go for the Cams, rounds or tri's?

Went for the Tri because they looked least like they were trying to stand out. Went for black but sort of wish I'd gone for red which I had "back then" (in Oakleys though). May change them sometime later - at 11 quid I can afford to change them as often as I change my tie. hehe
