Debate over compulsory cycle helmets

So is it right then that rather than strive to have better drivers and keeping bad drivers off the road, cyclists should armour-plate themselves?
Why can't people have the freedom to do what people in other countries (not far from here) do?
Not sure quite why you quoted me when making you statement. I thought my post was concluding that government should step out and let us make our own choices. Why can't people have the freedom to do what people in other countries (not far from here) do?
I did make some observations why the low countries are generally percieved as more cyclist friendly. I'm all for raising the standard of driving rather than amour plating ourselves.
I do think if more drivers were cyclists (as with the low countries example) they would understand what it is like as a cyclist to share the roads and so improve their driving.
