Get a Brooks leather saddle, they may seem harsh at first but once broken in [they mould themselves to the shape of your ar5e] and are comfortable for a whole day in the saddle

The thing with Lances book, is you don't have to follow it to a t, but what does do is takes you through the 'science' it discusses eating smartly, riding more, it also takes you through low-gear downhills, granny-gear sprints, fixed gear riding - it's packed with the most incredible information even things like wind chill factor.

Anyway should you be interested www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1405099917/202-4051833-5591002?v=glance&n=266239&s=gateway&v=glance

Many thanks for the book recommendation. Picked it up tonight and couldn't put it down. Just got done reading it. It's a great book! I learnt a lot, about nutrition, training, pacing yourself, mental toughness, etc. and the way it talks about all this with Lance's examples and race experiences to illustrate each point is very easy to read and absorb.

PoD, I have found there is a very fine line between the amount of food you eat and drink that will keep your weight level or up, or lose you weight. I had the same experience as you, lots of exercise ie. cycling, CV and weights at the gym and kickboxing, and healthy eating, yet I could never get my weight down and it just kept creeping up. I'd like to pretend it was all muscle, but in the words of the old song "it must be jelly 'cos jam don't shake like that".

Try practicing portion control eg if you eat 3 Shredded Wheat for breakfast, drop to 2 or even 1. If you usually have 2 sandwiches at lunchtime, eat 1, or take the tops off them. If you like a biscuit with your cuppa, eat 1, not half the packet. Don't have second helpings, even of healthy food. Needless to say, cut out the between meals "just one won't hurt" nibbling. If you must have something between meals, eat fruit or drink water.

This way, you don't have to give up eating what you like, and your appetite will adapt quickly. It's worked for me and so far since May I have lost the best part of a stone.

Good luck!

Do you have a heart rate monitor? A good one? That should tell you what you need to keep your heart rate at to burn more fat. It really works, but exercising at such a "hard level" is very difficult to get used to at first.
