Generally the best rides, no plan means zero expectations so you're just making decisions as you go based on how you feel and what you actually want to do...
Yeah 100%, my brother said the same.

A rather damp cycle home from the beer festival with work colleagues this evening. Weirdly, I rather enjoyed it, and took the long route home. 13.5 miles. Lovely.

From yesterday - Regents Park Canal loop - about 80km around London. Fantastic ride, something slightly surreal and sub-culture-y about the canal. Conditions got a a bit damp in the afternoon and we had three punctures (all for the same person!).

I walked some of that last year as it was a nice day - had a business meeting. Totally unaware of it before, and amazing how tranquil and pretty some bits of it are. You're Bob on with the sub culture vibe. That's exactly how bits of it feel.

If it's the narrow boaters you're referring to then yeah I totally get that, they're like a whole community of their own with their own culture.

C4 currently have a series called narrow escapes that follows a few of them, my fave being a guy I follow on Insta called Sam who runs 'The Floating Bike Shop'. The guy is mental but in a good way. Weirdly I found him through listening to Smith and Sniff....

It was partly that but also the surrounding architecture, tiny coffee shops, etc. along the way. Didn't feel like you were in London at all.

I'm not, I'm in Huddersfield but we've got our own canals and canal culture. Like you say the architecture is really interesting, especially the mills and buildings the canal used served that have survived, proper window into the past.

You now get narrow boaters either running coffee shops or setting up shop to sell their stuff to passers by and I love it.

A slightly grey day at Llanelli beach, but happy anyway as it's my first road ride since mid-August last year, thanks to bad weather and long-term lurgy.

The (half-price wink ) Canyon VCLS carbon post I bought back in October and then never got to ride does seem to take a lot of the buzz out smile

From yesterday, arriving in Harwich on the way to Felixstowe ... beautiful start to the day, beautiful end to the day, miserable middle of the day ...

Are you down south at the moment? I think it was you that mentioned staying near Christchurch?

If not, then it reminded me of St. Catherine's Hill bridleway. It goes past a pair of concrete above-ground reservoirs on the top of the hill, and they are used by some very talented street/graffiti artists as an enormous "canvas"...

Pillbox dumped on Studland beach by coastal erosion. I only just got to/from it with an incoming tide.

Frank's Tank, at the end of the bridleway descent from the golf club.

Old Harry Rocks, at the bottom of the grassy descent of Ballard Down.

Purbeck trundle. Pictures from a relatively recent ride.

Spotted this berthed in the canal just at Spiers Wharf in Glasgow, looks pretty cool and some nice handy work has went into the metal work. Not sure how they’ve insulated this for the weather.
