I'll try and edit it this evening. It's basically there save for the mistake that SPB spotted. Apparently the Rapha Cafe closes at 6 so we may be diverting to another spot in Soho if we're running behind, but we'll play that one by ear on the day.
Theres a couple of cafe's on Berwick street in the heart of Soho, huge pavement area too.Gruffy said:
Strava routes are ready to go - linked on the first post of this thread
Cheers Big fella, to save anyone else who like me is too lazy to search here they are;Friday 8th May

Saturday 9th May

Sunday 10th May

Sorry, Gruffy. Hopefully my last question ahead of you leaving on Thursday.
I know you were originally hoping to organise something else for the departure from Cambridge but that time ran out. Will we be starting then at the official start, at Parker's Piece (on Gonville Place)? Meeting by that multi-coloured polygonal snack kiosk/WC block I snapped earlier?
(If so, there's an area into which the support cars could pull in and use as a drop-off point. It has double yellows but that shouldn't preclude unloading and short-term attended waiting)
edit - looking at the Strava route has answered my question. See you there Sunday.

Is anyone else who's coming on Android?
On the Whatsapp group, Justin was asking if anyone used Gamin to Smartphone tracking. I cheaped out with my bike computer and don't have a Garmin, but I can see how location tracking could be useful for this.
So I've been playing with an app RTT2 by greenalp that would let Justin (and each other) know where we all are. Real time locations of defined 'friends' can be seen either within the app or via a custom URL. Although any device with a web browser can be used to view locations via that URL, the app itself is Android only so only Android users can send locations. But Justin could at least track all of us with Androids. The group size is limited to 5 in the free version, but it seems it can be increased by 25 for just a couple of quid.
In a quick test yesterday, Justin was able to see my location via the URL. Battery drain is surprisingly low. I set mine to update position every 30 seconds and left it running for 11 hours overnight, during which my S4 battery went down from 80% to 50%. It probably would have gone done nearly that much anyway in that time.
I'm happy to run it on Sunday if it would help Justin help us. If anyone else wanted to as well, we could add each other as friends within the app and appear on the same map for Justin. My username on greenalp is sixpotbelly
We could even put the URL up here for anyone else interested in seeing how we're getting on. I'd find it interesting to be able to see how the Full Monties were getting on over stages 1 and 2, for example, if any of them have Android and were happy to run the app too.
What do people think? Worth setting up a TdePH group on it?

I've got android and would be happy to run the app. I'll download it and sort it out on Sunday if needed. Its a motoG though so multitasking can be a bit spotty.
I sometimes use the Garmin livetrack tracking but it does go through the garmin battery a bit more than normal and apparently stopped showing updates once we got out of London for L2B2L despite saying that it was connected.

I've got the Garmin 1000 and a Blackberry and thought this would be a really good feature, not only for the TdeP but also whilst out riding on my own so Mrs M could find me easily if i had a problem.
But despite trying for several evenings to get this functionality to work i have admitted defeat, so if anyone knows how to make it work please let me know.

I am on Andriod and have downloaded the gpx to ViewRanger which will cope with live stuff. I don't have a bike mount though
Interesting. That could be another option.I have ViewRanger too but confess I haven't really used it. Just had a quick look now and my initial impression, which could well be wrong, is that it's focussed more on route following than group tracking. It's great that it supports Apple stuff as well but on the other hand you need to have the app yourself to track your 'buddies' - you can't do so via a URL on a web browser.
I assume it still sends location updates whilst the app is running in the background or the screen locked? And the battery drain is similarly low? If so, I'm happy to run whichever app works best for Justin. Or even both.

Unistalling the garmin app on your phone and reinstalling was the advice that I got that sorted it for me.But despite trying for several evenings to get this functionality to work i have admitted defeat, so if anyone knows how to make it work please let me know.

Never used it 'live' I will admit, and I apologise as I misunderstood that group tracking was required. I doubt it will do that.I have ViewRanger too but confess I haven't really used it. I don't know, it looks like you can track 'buddies' on it. I think it was a perfectly valid suggestion at least.edit - been playing and it (Android ViewRanger) won't allow you to minimise it to run in the background when tracking is active. It also kept my screen on permanently. I think therefore that RTT2 would be the better suited. Was worth looking at, though.
