I went to the dam press conference when it was first announced and was probably one of the first in the country to apply, obviously made no difference as I didn't get a place! Oh well a fair ballot I suppose.

Cancelled too. Disappointed not to get in, but my main focus this summer is La Marmotte.

I'm just asking........ (before I get shot down in flames).
But it's being held on public roads. If it's anything like the L2B then they'll allow traffic to cross at certain points of the course. Which means it is a 'closed' course but not a closed course - if you see what I mean?
What's to stop you actually just riding the route on the day anyway?

Only £45? To ride your own bike 100 miles? Amazing value.

I wonder if there is any correlation between getting a place and how fast you claimed you would ride it in or how often you ride?

Also there was a box to tick regarding donations and paying money to charity (I can’t remember the exact wording) which I didn’t agree to, I wonder if that had any influence.

Good question. I'd also like to know to see if my friends could join me along the way.

If you haven't got a place in the ballot why don't you sign up with a charity? Or am I missing something here.

You can but I think I'd struggle to raise £600

Happy days...

Should we start an "in" table, and ride in a group?

I'm going to guess that it didn't have a huge influence in the end, judging by some of the people on my facebook that seem to have got in. I believe one of the status' read something like, 'Got in, better buy a bike now and learn how to ride'. I predict carnage.

Likewise. And to maybe be on telly. And be part of a festival of cycling. And so on.

i was thinking about this last night and i think you could well be right. 22,000 cyclists some of whom will be real amateurs bunching together, no discipline or idea of what is going on around them. clogging up on anything that looks remotely like a lump. i think there will be a spate of crashes and offs.

i've entered in through the charity section and i'm now concerned i'm going to be at the back in a pile of bafoons in fancy dress...
