HEALTH WARNING!

The Gap Toothed Gypsy is back out with the massive.

She's just done the Alp d'Huez Triathlon and was 3rd solo female in the '09 Sleepless in the Saddle. Do not try to race her!

Yes, there is usually at least a couple of the 'massive' riding out from Mammoth at 630pm every Wednesday night. Even when there's snow on the ground and our hydration packs are freezing up.

Any PHers who are reasonably fit and competant on an mtb would be welcome to tag along. In general, from now on in, lights are a must after 9pm and you'll need the usual bullst that you'd take for any 3hr trail ride out; spare tubes, drink, bit of snap (Jaffa ckaes, Jelly Babies, Fruitloaf whatever) and a long sleeved top or waterproof if conditions threaten to turn a bit British.

Obviously too late to join in tonights ride, but me and a mate are going to cannock for the first proper time on friday (we went once before, followed a completely odd route that involved a massive road climb back to the car... mistake biggrin)

I came on here to see if there was anything posted about riding there, didn't even have to search biggrin I'm proper excited, used to just a local forest and then the road section home since we moved up to Lincolnshire.

Anyway, I digress. Anything in particular to watch out for/tips? We're going to meet at the Swinnerton bike shop to start, or should we start at one of the pubs mentioned? N.B. we're meeting up at noon smile

Cheers guys, hope you have a decent ride out this evening!

The comedy dismount count was high last night - the Massive suspect some sort of disturbance in 'the force' - and there we're quite a few offs.

Three of us went over the bars, you, me (later on in an 'invisible' ditch) and someone else...

I hope the ride was enjopyed by all. The group has a pace of its own and is difficult to very. It might be a tad rapid and energetic for some, whilst for others the pace and the waiting around at muster points might be a frustration. All I can say is that anyone is welcome to tag alone and try.

I'm very upset with Marcellus for inviting a surprise, racing snake guest, Dave. Bad form. biggrin

(Out of the office for the rest of the day, but will try and post up the route stats later.)

mmmmm one of those strange internet forum evenings...

Starting with meeting 15 lyrca clad men (plus one woman) in some car park near "Doggers central" (aka Cannock) and then setting off into the evening sunset with them to "go to the chase". (almost as odd as being greeted by a man in a petrol station with a "hello I'm Touching Cloth") anyway I digress!

The first couple of Km were the worst... we set out on the road (for all of 500m) and then started to climb... for 2.7km and 100m ascent before we dived off the main track and onto the single track stuff. I really have no idea where we went I mean I only found Cannock for the first time last night but there were ups and downs, lefts and rights, steps, rollers, drop offs, trees, bushes, bracken, doggers in the carparks, chavs in their Novas, mud and everything you can expect from a 20km ride in some woods.

Plus a rather nice evening picnic of "chilli dogs", peanuts, cracklin' and cola bottles to kill some time to make sure that it got properly dark before the final 1/3rd of the ride..

A 1st for me was riding at night, I really must get some lights!! It is the novelty of riding at night that I blame for my Nadia Comaneci style "triple salto bottle destroying dismount" towards the end.. I fear I lost points for not managing to hold my final position for long although had I turned the "F**k/ouch/b****cks" into a "tada <clap hands>" I could have pulled them back Russian Dancer stylee...... (the back is fine btw for all of those concerned)

As for bringing the Racing Snake along............. he did apologise and said that next time he'll take the whole day off and warm up properly as opposed to just the afternoon (git)!!

(some stats for those interested; 19.6miles, 455m climb, 2hrs 21m riding, 1hr 05m chin wagging. As for other stats there's a very strange spike in my HR at about the 16.5mile mark for some reason on a downhill section suddenly HR jumped by 45bmp............................ doubly odd is speed went from 20.2mph to zero in no distance or time at all. I wonder if the two could be related scratchchin )

So a successful PH 1st excusion on the chase I think, Digga can you pass on a massive thanks to the Mammouth lot being so welcoming and for looking after us all.
