Dry on the way in. Very grey & moody looking sky though, as if it were eyeing me up for a personal soaking.

A wet one this morning, not too unpleasant though. However, the thought of squeezing into wet Lycra this evening is not filling me with joy.

A wet one here too. Also, my gloves were still soaking from yesterday, so also a little cold. Oh and glasses fogged up, brakes ineffective, and slippy roads. Still, could be riding up the Stelvio in the snow - that would be less pleasant.

I was on my CX bike this morning with grippy tryes and disc brakes biggrin

Mudguards might be next on the list!

I had to look up the Stelvio pass, I had no idea what it was & I now have to say I agree with you completely. yikes

I have a friend who rode the Stelvio sportive last year, he said it was insane, a bunch charged off at a pro tour pace and pretty much kept it up for the entire event, turns out there were several ex-pros in the field and some old scores to settle! looks like an epic route if the sun is shining, i'd love a go, he was only doing the shorter route but did it with a lowest gear of 39/25 too!

Yeah well, I regularly schlep up Charmandean lane to Cissbury Ring & that's easily 600 feet of climbing. With Brambles! hehe

me too, i like UK sportives but I do want a bigger challenge now, I'll aim to finish with "gold" standard times now but i cant get out as much as i would like to build up long base miles so just finding some huge mountains to climb seems like a sensible plan!!!

ps I didnt cycle in today... wink

THANK YOU!!! You've just given me some more N+1 reasoning!

Today I was on the road-tyred single-speed c/w mudguards. I do also have a chunky CX bike, which currently has road tyres and canti brakes (no mudguards), and I mainly use it for cafe road rides. I don't have a "propser" road bike. Now my N+1 reasoning is:

Revert the CX bike to mudguards and CX tyres for wet commutes;
Use the single-speed for dry commutes;
AND
Buy a super-light road specific bike for cafe rides.

I get the feeling that suggesting that you stop riding and go back to driving/public transport is not going to be regarded as helpful advice in this instance?

Without doubt invest in a bike fit or get someone who knows what they're doing to set you up IMO smile

Would a fit really make a big difference ?
I have no idea what the size of my bike currently is...

It's fitting you to the bike smile Cleat position, fore/aft saddle and height etc. I did one for my mate the other week, sorted his knees out for him...

Took the long way home yesterday, 46 km from Chiswick to Carshalton (it's normally 22km) via Richmond Park, Hampton Ct, Claygate, Chessington, Epsom. And a really muddy bridleway crossing the A3, which was solid concrete when I last rode it 10+ years ago!

In retrospect that was a fairly idiotic ride for a 17 stone lardy to do on a single speed road bike with road tyres......

But it took me over 600km for the month so I'm a little bit "stoked" as the younger folk might say.
