Our club hill climb last Sunday, just at the top of Snap Hill, near Swindon , just got off the steepest section and sprinting for the win!
That bloody VW overtook me then pulled in right in front on the finish line with a left hook ! I squeezed through on the right, in full on sprint mode and then collapsed on the verge!

I work a couple of miles from the bottom, so try and ride it on my commute home once a week over the summer
I found the other side much harder, the long drag 3 mile from Aldbourne to the top of snap , I got hit by a horrific downpour just at the end of the timed session.

Yep correct!! I dont mind it, in fact I quite enjoy it, its brutal but all done in 3 and a bit minutes. I was worried Sunday as it started pissing it down and I knew I would have no grip to get up, thankfully the sun came out and dried it up.

My Missus is 7th on Strava but it was near the end of a long ride and the time before she had binned it halfway up so was being conservative, I reckon she could easily get top 5. And over the mountain road from Mach, ouch. Chapeau to you sir.
No point making it an EASY route down through Wales, eh?! Tbh, the mountain road from Mach was by far and away not the most difficult part of the ride. The coast road into Barmouth with a 40mph headwind was pretty desperate, and then the constant undulations in mid Wales and then south of the Brecon Beacons were the real killer. I think that the large mountains actually masked the severity of the rest of the route, as the number of 100m climbs just barely featured on the radar before the ride.
Excellent route though. Would recommend it to anyone if they want a proper challenge!

I'll be going back next year, Tuffer. This year's website http://torino-nice.weebly.com/intro.html. We could start a TNR 2017 thread at some point if there's interest?
You should have paid the supplement for a couchette, Dickie! Flying's quicker, cheaper and easier, but it was interesting to try a different way and it was certainly nice not having to dismantle and pack up the bike. Might be academic for next year though as the sleeper train stops running for good soon, and the daytime TGVs on that line don't accept full-size bikes.
I am hooked on this idea, do you have a .gpx of the route? You should have paid the supplement for a couchette, Dickie! ^ It's on again next year Tuffer, starts Sept 5th.
Fly out to Turin with bike in a plastic CTC bag, travel with that (850g though) or poste restante another one to yourself in Nice, fly back from Nice.
I can't recommend the 36hr marathon option of 20Euro sleeper train to Paris followed by a 200km headwind slog racing to catch the ferry at Dieppe.
Fly Turin, stay in hotel, leave baggage at hotel, cycle to Nice, cycle back to Turin by shortest route, couple of days in Turin and fly home.....Or vice versa. 2 weeks all in.Fly out to Turin with bike in a plastic CTC bag, travel with that (850g though) or poste restante another one to yourself in Nice, fly back from Nice.

Yesterday seemed like the perfect day to be out on a bike, sunny, but not too warm.

It will be, UCI rated MTB courses are only allowed a certain % of the total course length to be flat, I can't remember if its 5 or 15% that's allowed.I went there for the race they ran just before the Olympics this year, t'was fun to watch, but didn't look fun to ride, well not at their pace!
