My Round The World ride (inc top blagging at Spa & The Ring)

Probably Thailand so if ping pong ball shows are your thing then you're more than welcome to join me.
@daz3210 I had no idea what the trip was going to cost before I left England but had read up on what others had spent and it is possible to do it on barely any money if you only ever wild camp, buy all your food from markets and cook it yourself, never visit any tourist attractions that cost money etc.
I'm not quite as extreme as that but will usually try & find the cheapest accommodation like hostel dormitories rather than hotels unless there's no choice and eat from cafes & street vendors but I do spend money on tourist attractions as long as they're not hugely expensive otherwise what's the point of going travelling?

I'm back on the bike now after too long sitting around waiting for visas, exploring cities, partying etc.
I've got about 200km of mountains to cross.
Which should take about 3 days with the weight I'm carrying.
And while it's not snowing like it was in Kazakhstan and Xinjiang Province, it's very cold.
So cold in fact, that this is the temperature inside my hotel room.

Feel free to tell me to mind my own business if you wish, but when you set off, did you have any kind of budget in mind as to what the trip was likely to cost?
I would love to have a go at something like this, but fear of failure through lack of funds would put me off.
What's your idea of a suitable budget and I'll tell you if I think you're being realistic or not?I would love to have a go at something like this, but fear of failure through lack of funds would put me off.

Just trip spend, I.m guessing £12k for the kit.
I should think you'd get the best equipment money can buy and be able to afford the odd 5 star hotel for £52K!I've never added it all up but I'm guessing £5-6k for the kit including £2k for the bike which I already had. The trip itself is pretty cheap once I left Western Europe with visas being my biggest expense and I expect flights will be once I've got large amounts of water to cross in one go.
Spot the Buddha....
And just in case the angle's not great, here's a massive clue....
For those interested in reading more about where I was today, here's a bit of background info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leshan_Giant_Buddha

Are you going to go tubing?!? What is your planned route around Thailand / Cambodia / Vietnam?
Maybe but I've only been here a day so I still need to get a feel for the place. As for my route, I make it up as I go along so all I can say for now is it's south towards Singapore via whatever takes my fancy.15,727km was my total for the first year.
As random things at the side of the road go, it doesn't get any more random than a couple of kids with a stuffed leopard cat being used as a cuddly toy. When I first saw it I had to do a double take to see if it was alive or not.
And today I had to have my cleats cut off my boots by a guy in the street with an angle grinder because the allen key bolts had fused to the cleats. One of the hazards of doing so much walking I suppose.

Amazing stuff mate!
Do you still have a google maps link to show your route to date?
Good luck!
Yeah but it needs updating. It still shows I'm in China.Do you still have a google maps link to show your route to date?

Annoyingly, because of the number of waypoints it's now on two pages.
Over the last two days I've met up with UNICEF Cambodia and the British Ambassador to Cambodia to help gain a bit of extra publicity for my blog via their Facebook pages which have a combined audience of just under 60,000 fans.
And after two weeks of sitting around in Phnom Penh twiddling my thumbs, drinking lots of beer and getting fat I've finally got my 60 day visa for Thailand so I'm back on my bike today heading for Siem Reap so I can see Angkor Wat before crossing the Thai border in early May.
