Can't understand riders who ride with a flashing front light. I have to switch mine to flashing to get to lowest power mode and it gives me a headache after 2 seconds!
I can understand having a low-power flashing light with a proper solid light. It's the people with flashing megawatts that get me.The point of the flashing mode is to be seen - sounds like it worked
Actually, I don't really see the point in having such an intense directional beam flashing either - something more like a high intensity rear flashing LED but white would be better. I use the flashing mode of my front light when I want to be seen but don't need it to see by, but I think flashing mode is only 200 lumens.

Unfortunately people notice you a lot more with a flashing front beam - I don't need the light to see and hence it goes on flash. I do direct mine down as much as possible though because I'm aware that it's very bright!ewenm said:
Mild and damp here. Too much wine yesterday meant a groggy few miles. Only 4 weeks to go until my commute distance goes from 3 miles to 15 miles each way of which 10 are unlit cyclepath... gulp...
At least you now have a justification for a Chinese Cree Light. Get a spare battery pack as well, just to save yourself getting stuck.

I went past a chap cycling along CS7 this morning on a singlespeed with a difference this morning.
I'd guess he had a 14 tooth cog on the rear, but what made it different was that he had the same size cog on the front! He was fastest off the lights by a country mile, right up to the point where he span out at about 13mph on the flat!
He used it to play bicycle polo (and indeed had a couple of mallets sticking out of his rucksack, and as he said, there's not much call for top speed on a basketball court!
I was wondering what his story was! I remember seeing him in the past with one or two polo mallets sticking out from his backpack.I'd guess he had a 14 tooth cog on the rear, but what made it different was that he had the same size cog on the front! Ronhill do some really thin hats for running which might be worth a look. failing that "Buffs" are quite thin too?
As a member of the balding community, well vented helmets in winter are no fun at all!
I found the same, but application of some duck tape over the vents solved that. You can open and close vents pretty easily by removing the tape if you need to, if you can get the damn stuff off. As a member of the balding community, well vented helmets in winter are no fun at all!

Due to inclement weather conditions, Just Cyder's daily commute has been suspended until further notice as I suspect I may actually be soluble.
Tsk. Now is the best time to be cycling. Get to the office all soggy, then have a nice shower, put on a dry suit and go and smile smugly at your colleagues in their soggy suits and shirts from their sprint between home/train/office. JustNeil said:

Nice idea. WD40 can be very good at removing the sticky residue from the tape (perhaps applied with a cloth rather than spraying all over the helmet )I find that the flashing front light has reduced the number of near misses. It's just a "be seen" flashed from pound shop but seems to do the trick
Also bought a static for a dark lane beside a stream, it tries to illuminate the way but fails. I don't care as I love cycling down it in the pitch dark, seems quite adventurous. Maybe I just don't get out enough !

See this chap all the time and always wondered what the things sticking out of his bag were (thanks), he must take an absolute age to get to work. Probably means I've seen you both too
I'm fairly easy to spot. There aren't many other 18 stone De Rosa riders commuting from Epsom to Waterloo! Feel free to break the habit of a (London) lifetime and say hello if you do spot me.

Definitely this! Overtook a transit van on my way in this morning, feeling pretty good about that too!
I can finally rejoin this topic
Next week I will beliving in my new house which means a 10 mile ea.way ride rather than a 27 mile ea.way like I was previously. whilst I did do the 27 milers plenty of times being honest it was a bit of a pain, especially if delayed at work and certainly not achievable once the light started to go.
With it being 10 miles there is no excuse not to do it in all but the worst conditions and come the summer time extend it to take advantage of the good weather
