2 tickets for the final session of Six Day London in October.
Never been to the velodrome before so very excited
Me neither and that reminds me that while it's not really a bike 'bit' I did manage to sign myself up for a Lee Valley taster session when I was in the pub last week Never been to the velodrome before so very excited
Slightly disappointed to find this no longer constitutes part 1 of the track accreditation process, but hey-ho.
I as planning to junk my IXS helmet which I've never gotten on with for a lovely Giro Montaro (fits perfectly) but I've just had to fork out for some drivetrain bits and of course, I had to go from 10-11 speed in the process. That's April's bike spend just, er, spent.
On the plus side I am rocking about on a Cotic Solaris 29er until the bits are fitted which is, as always with Cotic, a rather nice hard tail.

I'm a funny shape so its build up, cant get off the peg. Also with the new aero bikes you cant easily drop the stems down without cutting the steerer. Both the Madone and Vias have funky aero spacers.
That saying, I do fancy a go on the new Vias just to see what its like (I really need something in alu, not a 5th aero bike)
Ah ok, fair enough - yes I saw that, part of the clean look aren't they. I'd use my figures from this bike I suppose. A mate of mine has the Vias, I may ask for a quick spin, but I should imagine like most things it won't feel much different to my S Works Tarmac with nice wheels on ha.That saying, I do fancy a go on the new Vias just to see what its like (I really need something in alu, not a 5th aero bike)
Neither Gaviria nor Sagan were on their Vias at MSR. Either the brakes are still st or they are too stiff for that many miles. With our roads I'd defo go for the Madone dude.
Just ordered a cheapy narrow-wide chainring to convert the commuter from 3x9 to 1x9:
36T in red, just 'cause.
(and a new chain for it as well).
I haven't used either the big or small chainrings for about a year, so I figured I might as well lose them, along with the derailleur and shifter, to tidy it up a bit and make it easier to keep clean.
I also bought some 32c Gatorskins for it last week, to replace the worn out Schwable Marathons. It's turning into a very focused bike, perfectly tailored to how I use it

After last weeks coming together of wheel and derailleur:

I managed to get a new rear hanger for £6.99 and a rear derailleur for £17.40!
Shiney new bits to make the Dawes ridable again! by Ben Magee, on Flickr
So not too expensive until...
I decided to take the opportunity to swap out the 12-25 for a 11-28 and finally replace the worn chain! (£50 from Wiggle)

On the up side, I now have an 11 speed 'chain whip' and 10 of the 11 gears on my spare wheel which has now become a turbo trainer wheel!

Excellent up-cycling! I swapped mine from 11-28 to 11-32 in the winter, amazing how cheap it is to do with online prices. (I feel I need to make an excuse for my cassette choice - I have a 52/36 and live in the Alps )Rear Wheel + Rear Deraileur = Mess... by Ben Magee, on Flickr

I want some new shoes too, the lace up S Works look good, did you go with those or the boa ones?
The boa version. I do like the lace up version but tbh the supposed increase in aero vs convenience of reaching down on the ride and winding them on or off a little swung it. Plus the lace ups were a bit hipster Either version though are supremely comfortable. The new heel grip is mega and there's more room in the front of the shoe. The previous S-Works weren't as good a fit for me, these are a massive step forward. Expensive for sure but as I'm spending 10 hrs or so a week in them I figure it's worth it.
Brooks Imperial saddle @25% of UK price from Mantel in Holland. Ordered at 7pm on Good Friday - in the hands of DHL at 9pm. Quotes delivery on Monday, but I expect Tuesday given the Bank Holiday - keeping an eye on the DHL tracker.
Many all my mileage become more comfortable - even if the bike will weigh an extra 205gms.

Decided to go 1x10 on both my bikes, bought a One-UP 11-42 extender kit and 32t chainring for my Stumpy Evo, along with an XT shifter and Der. After a few rides Ive realised Ive not yet got the legs for a 32t on climbs so Thursday I picked up a 30t in green to match the bike.
On my hardtail it was easier and just replaced the chainring with a 34t oval AbsoluteBlack. Because its 3kgs lighter I can pedal that one ok...

So that's where Mantel are based. They seem to come up a lot in searches recently and not heard of them before. Many all my mileage become more comfortable - even if the bike will weigh an extra 205gms.
1 x 11 Speed XT groupset for my hardtail after I ripped the mech off. I hated the SLX shifter that I had on there, the 32T chainring was too small and the cranks were handmedowns from 2008 so the upgrade was justified in my eyes.
New bars for the hardtail after I had to saw the grips off the old ones
Castelli Perfetto Jersey. Wore it this weekend and its perfect for the changeable conditions in the UK.

With 2 multi day jaunts coming up this year a second pair of decent bibs to go alongside the trust Assos s5 fi.mille was needed.
A quick FB thread with the audax guys lead me to these.
First impressions, very light, good technical use of right fabrics in right places, mesh at back, modesty panel and chamois are in the right place, leg grippers are ace; got a century on sunday so will try 'em out.

Decided my 24" TV in the garage was too small so I managed to get hold of a 42" Panasonic plasma screen for a good price
It's connected to a laptop, Kodi or my iphone and I can watch almost everything and anything I wish whilst I work up a sweat...

Bought some DMR V12 Magnesium pedals for mine. Also got some huge mudguards, for when I'm on really muddy single track trails!
Re. the above post about the XT 1x11 setup, that's what I have on mine and it's fantastic. Shifting is so quick and precise and I don't miss the front mech. The XT brakes from the same range are awesome too. Really pleased with it.

New saddle to replace the standard one that came on my Roubaix. Standard one is extremely light but just does not seem to fit my ass, was a pretty uncomfortable 75 miles at the weekend. Picked up a new Selle Italia saddle yesterday but it has steel rails so does not fit my seat post. Have now ordered this:
Gassing Station | Pedal Powered | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
